Upgrading to new outlook will not accept IMAP accounts

Hi

trying to upgrade but when giving al the information of my IMAP connection the continue button is greyed out.

On another MS forum people are saying IMAP is not enabled yet, is that correct?

Indeed, the new Outlook for Windows does not support IMAP accounts yet. This means that you cannot add your email account from Yahoo!, iCloud, or other providers that use IMAP protocols to the new Outlook app. The new Outlook for Windows currently supports Exchange-backed Microsoft 365 work or school accounts, Outlook.com accounts, and Gmail accounts.

However, there is some good news. The new Outlook for Windows team is working hard to add support for more account types in the future, including IMAP accounts. They have not announced a specific timeline for this feature. You can check their blog posts and release notes for the latest updates on the new Outlook for Windows development.

    Thanks. Another post agreeing with you and asking Microsoft to live up to their responsibilities and provide a proper service. Will they start advertising their Office suite honestly and state clearly to any potential user that new Outlook will not work for a good percentage of their target audience. Some hope!

    Dear Island Computers: Yes, I do know that IMAP has been around for 20 years, I am 85 years old, worked on the damn first computers at DEC!! Charter/Spectrum is one of the top two ISP's in the U.S. I have had several conversations with their techs. My email IMAP account with Spectrum uses an EMAIL PW, of course everyone needs their own PW! But when I tried to switch over to MS's new OUTLOOK, I get as far as: "enter IMAP PW". Damn it MS, Spectrum does not require an IMAP PW as of August 2024, it may be coming in the future but at age 85 I may be pushing up grass before either Spectrum adds an IMAP PW for each email account, or, before MS gives us a bypass, which they can do anytime they wish if they were motivated to do so.
    The user community should never have to do through this BS to use a damn email program.

    Thank you for your reply. Charter/Spectrum does not use ports 25 and 110., at least not with my email account. My Spectrum account is an IMAP service and ports are 500 series, I can't recall without checking. When I talked with a Charter guru, they told me that as of this year they did not require me to have an IMAP PW to use the new OUTLOOK just my usual email PW on my account.
