Hotmail keeps asking for my password.

Microsoft sent this out in an email:

"The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th"

So, the proper answer is that Microsoft is irritating you intentionally to make you go ahead and switch your email account from POP3 or IMAP to a Microsoft Exchange account before September 16, 2024. Delete your existing account in Outlook 365 and then add it back allowing Outlook to do it automatically. It will set up an exchange server type account.

I did this and have had no more issues. A couple of things I had to do were switch my calendar back to my preferred email account which wasn't the hotmail account and create a rule in the new exchange account that instructs it to deliver incoming messages to my preferred email account inbox. I like to have messages delivered from my total of six email accounts to one inbox.

No, we still have the same issue and Microsoft still arrrogantly do not correct the issue. It is a daily problem for both me and more family members. We are now, after this long wait without any action from Microsoft talking about changing to a more stable provider since we are getting more and more upset after such a treatment after all these years as Microsoft customers. Are we as customers so little of interest, and why should we spend so much time with these problems when there are other providers to choose from?

Your only deleting the account off of your pc/phone/tablet, not from your hotmail/outlook account.

One you put your username and password in all your account details will be downloaded back on to your system.

I have done that on Ipad, iphone, and Macbook Air...i thought it worked, then next day i was promoted for password again, and multiple times a day have ever since :(

My old Windows 8.1 asked for the password again this morning and said there was a problem with a security certificate but eventually updated. The problem never occurs on my Windows 11 laptop so you could be right about the TPM chip. I normally use another email provider so it's not a big problem, just annoying. I had to have a MS email when I bought the old laptop so I could use the Mail App built in to Windows 8. Microsoft should sort this problem out as there must be many people still using a hotmail address.
