Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password

Again, you are using IMAP... not EAS or similar protocol. Several of us are saying the same thing that we prefer EAS or Exchange, so we can sync contacts and calendar in addition to email. If you add 1 of the 2 common plug-ins to do EAS, you will then have the issue Rob is talking about.

I am seeing exactly the same issue as I have been exploring alternatives. Perhaps this is something you can bring back to your team. As much as it pains me, you now have life-long MS supporters seriously looking at alternatives.

I apologize for the frustration. Since you are having the issue with Outlook for Android, please submit an In App ticket. The link to do this is at the top of this article relating to the setup, Set up email in the Outlook for Android app - Microsoft Support. Did you add the account as IMAP before? I'm speculating but I wonder if Outlook for Android is caching the prior connection settings. Please update if In App support is able to help identify the issue.

I saw that article as well. I think Microsoft's real desire is to gain access to our data that are not currently in Microsoft ecosystem. There is nothing stopping them for continuing Outlook desktop, and have a lite/feature-removed version for free, for consumers. Instead, some wisdom in Redmond decided to merge everything together. The "New Outlook"s product managers posted about adding POP3 and PST support, and a slew of very important features that are currently missing. Given "New Outlook" is a PWA, it's POP3 protocol will likely be implemented as a proxy service as well and perhaps PST only done as a file write to your local file system (just like how doc/xls/ppt are done with online Office) or stored in OneDrive.

It would be really good to have a solid alternative like Thurderbird for Exchange support, especially Microsoft seem to be abandoning that market for consumers.

At one time Apple did default to using Basic Auth when connecting to Outlook.com/Hotmail.com, so if you had this account setup for a while it would continue to be setup that way. There isn't anything behind the scenes that they just change, it will require a user to remove and readd the account.

When you are within the Apple Mail app and Adding a New Account, you should select Outlook.com as the email provider. Then login with your username and password.

Apparently I had previously added my @outlook.pt account in the Apple Mail app through the Microsoft Exchange provider.

Now I’ve removed and readded my account using the Outlook.com email provider, and I don’t get any password prompts anymore.

my question some pages before was probably overlooked so I try to ask again.

You stated that EWS will go EOL and therefore does not support oauth. What about EAS? Does it support oauth for personal accounts hosted by microsoft (outlook.com) and is it possible for third party app developers to use this protocol with oauth?

I was only able to find information about business accounts in relation to Azure where EAS can be used with oauth. If oauth cannot be used this is the end of userfriendly personal account hosting via outlook.com because I do not want to use IMAP protocol because of the lack of calendar and contact synchronisation.
