I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

I was skeptical at the beginning since there is a lot of FUD around this app, and in this forum ad well, some "not" very smart users like to sh** on MS and its employees just for the fun of it.

I am certain I have more experience than you on this and so are many others in this forum. "New Outlook" on Windows Store gets terribly low scores, endless of internet posts from very smart people that pin point exact issues. Of course, a world full of naysayers with advanced degrees and real-world tech experiences are all wrong, and magically, you are the "smart" one. If you want to use "New Outlook", go ahead... but don't pretend it's a solution for this issue and the issues raised are not true. The reality is you are not "smart" enough to even understand the deep issues and their nuances being pointed out or understand their implications. When you work a day on the other side of the equation and look at the amount of user data and metadata can be gathered, you would not have this type of careless attitude. Just because you don't have the knowledge to understand the privacy concerns raised by others, it doesn't make it non-existent or invalid.

This is the same way that apps like Apple Mail, Google Mail, and Thunderbird all have started to support OAuth in the past years.

So if Apple Mail already supports OAuth, why do I get the prompts on my iPhone and iPad (iOS & iPadOS 17.3.1) using the native Apple Mail app with an @outlook.pt account?

In the configuration of this account I see the server name: outlook.office365.com

If I want / need to add the same @outlook.pt account again I must select one of the choices:

    • Microsoft Exchange
    • Outlook.com

Which one should I choose, so that OAuth is used for authentication?

As for the ads, I can live with the occasional ad email, the app looks great and is really fast, and best of all is free.

One feature that I would like to have, is to being able to reorder the email accounts in the left pane, like having the ability to drag an account name up or down, or maybe having arrows to move an account up or down the list.

So far didn't have any password prompts on my msn.com account since the time that I have installed the app.

    Overall very happy 10/10
