Hotmail keeps asking for credentials on android phone

I have the Blackberry Hub and associated apps (password keeper, calendar, mail etc.) Installed on my android phone. For the last week when I open mail, I get a pop up asking me to verify my credentials for my hotmail account. It takes me to the account management screen where I have to enter my password. When I do so, I get the same pop up asking for credentials again. However, at certain points during the day, the account works fine and I get mail. This has happened before, but either entering my password worked, or it corrected itself the same day or next. I also have my Gmail and Sympatico email accounts in the Blackberry mail hub, as well as text messages, WhatsApp and Instagram . They all work fine. Since many other ppl have had the same issues with their hotmail account, it's definitely not the Blackberry Hub and Services that are causing the problem. Since you are in the process of transferring Windows mail to Outlook, which will affect hotmail accounts but not gmail etc., I'm wondering if this is the problem. My hotmail account works in Outlook and when I log in on the internet. I don't have a problem switching my hotmail account to Outlook, but I still want it to appear in my Blackberry mail hub.

Tony. I tried getting into my hotmail account a few minutes ago, and it appears to have worked. Don't know how long it will last, but you might be able to add back in your account.

Hi Kathy. As you know I keep getting the message that I need to log in to my hotmail account, and every time I try, I keep getting account can't be authenticated.

Surprise, surprise, I tried again today, and it appears I actually was successful.

Don't know how long it will last, but hoping issue as been fixed.

Exactly why I didn't delete my hotnail account. I had a feeling once I deleted it, I wouldn’t be able to get it back. It is a Microsoft problem. They want us to use Outlook. I already had the Outlook app on my phone, and hotmail works great on that. But it's a pain to have to switch between blackberry hub and Outlook. Plus I don't like the look of Outlook, calendar views abd personalization on phone are limited, and I can't add texts, WhatsApp, instgram etc like you can on the blackberry hub. I do use Outlook on my laptop and tablet, and Microsoft is going to switch their mail app on laptop etc to Outlook this year. Also annoying cause I don't like the new look on tablet either. I'm hoping that it doesn't mean the the Outlook mail app that I'm currently using on laptop and computer, doesn't force me to change to the new look either.

    Hello Lilian,

Thanks for your reply and screenshots.

The last screenshot suggest that you need to try updating your account settings. Have you tried securing your account for two step verification? If you have tried, then you may need to use an App Password for your email setup on your phone. This way you will no longer get the error message about the updating of account credentials. Please go to update settings or visit settings in your Phone and remove then readd your account to see if issue persists.

Also, to make sure you remember, set up two step verification to your account, please make sure to add at least 3 security information. Then, follow the steps here: How to use two-step verification with your Microsoft account - Microsoft Support.

You may generate app password to use as method of authentication to your email account on a mailing application. Please follow the steps here: Using app passwords with apps that don't support two-step verification - Microsoft Support

If the change you mentioned is about the Auth for Exchange, this was implemented to secure the accounts in Exchange set up for verification and to lessen the authentication through password. In this case, we are not the right team to implement such change. Please send feedback to the team, scroll down and look for feedback option - Enable or disable SMTP AUTH in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn.

    Regards,

    Kathy A.

Kathy these are the screens in order that pop up for my hotmail account. I'm still getting mail randomly and the red screen pops up every time I open my mail app whether I'm getting hotmail or not. I read in another post that you guys had made some changes that likely caused this to happen. I respectfully request you undo the changes, and figure out another way to achieve whatever you were trying to do when you first made the changes. Frankly, this is getting to the point of being beyond annoying. Thank you.

EDIT: Removed personally identifiable information (PII) from post.
