How do I block all emails ending with @jean-patrique.co.uk. So annoying - keep receiving them every 10 minutes if not often. In 2 days - 300 emails. Did try to make a email rule, but doesnt help. Any ideas?

How do I block all emails ending with @jean-patrique.co.uk. So annoying - keep receiving them every 10 minutes if not often. In 2 days - 300 emails. Did try to make a email rule, but doesnt help. Any ideas?

EDIT: 16/12/2023 - a bug with the blocked and safe senders and domains lists was preventing the procedure below from working between 12th and 16th December 2023. This has now been fixed.

There is an easier solution:

  1. Log into Outlook in either the web browser or the windows Outlook app;
  2. Click on the 'cog' symbol towards the top right;
  3. Click on "Email";
  4. Click on "Junk email";
  5. Under "Blocked senders and domains" click "+Add";
  6. Type "jean-patrique.co.uk";
  7. Press 'Enter';
  8. Click "Save" at the bottom of the list.

You can check it has saved the domain by starting to type it into the search bar on the right and it should appear even before you have typed it out in full.

This way it does not matter what combination of characters that the scumbag puts in front of the '@', the spam will get caught by this domain. Even better, unlike rules, which only apply to the inbox, this applies equally to junk email, which is where I presume this spam is going, and the result is to block it completely so you won't see it at all - not even in deleted or recoverable items. This is a positive change from previously, where I believe it just ensured that blocked senders and domains went into the junk folder.

This particular gambling-obsessed scumbag changes their domain every so often - they were ******@emails.fenwick.co.uk then ******@xixvodka.com then @monsoon.co.uk then @e.newscientist.com, so you will probably need to enter another domain if the deluge resumes under another guise.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

TE

    Hi,

    I cannot argue with any of that.

    From my point of view, it would also be a lot of work to migrate all my accounts, registrations and contacts over from my hotmail email address to a gmail one.

    You can view the email headers by right-clicking on an email > View > View message source

    Sometimes when you hover over a spam email, no email address appears, but there is usually a sender email address visible in the email headers. The IP of the sender is always visible in the email headers.

    Cheers,

    TE

    I thought all had been fixed and was finally grateful for not having anymore @Jean-Patrique.co.uk spam. Today though i noticed 1 had got through with that variation of the address again. Better than up to 40 a day i guess. But why is this filter not excluding it?

    Hi,

    Blocking "Jean-Patrique.co.uk" will only work if that is what is listed as the sender's domain in the message header. For some reason, a few of these emails do not have that. I have received one just now whilst I was replying. It appears to be some sort of glitch, rather than deliberate otherwise all those emails would come through again. I remain convinced that at some point this scammer will change domain name, but then hopefully it should be possible to block that domain instead.

    It is very difficult to block all spam entirely with the tools we have available, particularly if you only rely on the ones provided by Outlook. However, it is still possible to reduce the spam frequency dramatically. For example, I was regularly receiving 30-40 a day from various sources and after under a week of intensive reporting to IP hosts I have now got that down to around 10 a day and am hopeful of it dropping off further. Once you have fewer spam coming in, it is less work to report those that remain.

    Reporting to IP hosts requires patience. The listed IP owner has usually sold their IP to a client and in turn it often appears to be their client's customer's account that has been hacked or potentially the customer is the spammer. This means it can take some time for the reports to get passed down the chain, although I have had an odd one or two where the IP host has blocked them within a matter of hours.

    Cheers,

    TE

    The fix Settings > Junk email > Blocked senders and domains > Add "jean-patrique.co.uk" > Save does not work for me as I cannot see the option Blocked senders and domains in the drop down list.

    See screenshot below. I am using outlook.com and it is also there on the windows outlook app:
