Why is Mac Outlook Legacy not working today?

I am a support consultant for many customers. Getting a bunch of calls this morning (03/21/2024) about Legacy Mac version 16.8x and above not syncing.

If they switch to New Outlook, no issues. Online is also working.

Why would Legacy stop working today for some? Running Mac OS X 13.x and 14.x with same issue.

Please advise.

    This is ridiculous. Still not working after 15 hours. Version 16.83

    "New" Outlook is a step backwards and does NOT fulfill my needs. Need Legacy Outlook restored ASAP.

    While the current fix is listed as being in Outlook Version 15.20 (Build 7409.16) I just checked with a user on v15.20, build 7409.24 and the issue persists.

    Whatever they're doing is not resolving the issue, and it doesn't look like their supposed fix coming in 7409.16 is going to resolve it either.

    There are things that I like about the new Outlook, e.g., the UI has a faster response time. But it is lacking some crucial features. E.g.:

    • I cannot copy or move an e-mail from an IMAP account to a 365 account for archiving in a folder
    • I can't create a meeting request from an e-mail
    • I can't turn of/off "Focused Inbox" for each account/Mailbox individually, only for all or none.
    • etc.

    I fully agree. I have tried several times to use the New Outlook for Mac but it is so not user friendly and cumbersome. If Microsoft ever stops offering the legacy outlook for Mac, I may switch providers.

    the issue is still pending- Any update ? The New Outlook is unfortunately completely unusable for productive work and therefore not a valid answer or option.

    Can you please communicate the expected fix time for this issue or workaround for users other than "wait ..." ?
