The new update on OUTLOOK mail, is terrible

After researching how to get it back to how it looked, which was much more in my taste, much easier to navigate, had what I needed and nothing more, - I now see I can't get it back after it was updated.
I think i'm gonna completely disgard of this email, I liked how it looked on PC, it was dark, fast, easy to find things, now it's very complicated with a lot of options and tools i have no use for, and it's bright, with small buttons everywhere.

  • The browser version is alright, so that is what I will be using. I will uninstall outlook completely as a program from my PC, as I do not wish to have this update, and it's more trouble and much more confusing and irritating, than helping and good. It will complicate work and how easy it was before, but that's just how it is, when updates are being forced upon people.

It's a typical thing of big coperations to do this, so it dosen't surprise me, that some people who think they know it all, make something new, to shove down the users throat, instead of being able to choose ourselves.

I can't for the life of me understand why Microsoft is forcing a product that no one wants on us. At least give users the choice. The new Outlook is AWFUL looking.

Just turn off the "try new look" and it will roll back.

But i agree with you, its pure garbage and may as well be outlook online which is what i think they are trying to achieve.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Just like the horrible spacing on this forum. Look at how this forum webpage is laid out. Look at all of the blank space around the page. Seriously, who makes this stuff?

Windows users, if you lost the ability to switch back, go here -

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

Change the new look value to "1" then restart the new Outlook and the button to switch to the old look will return. After you hit the button close Outlook if it doesn't close on it's own. Then, make sure you're starting the old Outlook, the program icon looks different. In my case the old Outlook program icon doesn't show on the taskbar, but I don't care.

The new Outlook on Windows is terrible. I like it for Mac, but it's impossible to use on Windows.

I'm going to try the solution from rseller tomorrow and see if that works:

Once flipped on, the toggle is irrelevant since the "old" version still exists. Just run it. You should still be able to find its shortcut in Start (and wherever else you might have had it before), but if not you will see outlook.exe in one of these places (may vary slightly depending on edition), so if necessary make a new shortcut:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

    or here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

The nice thing about the New Outlook is that it's not an either/or proposition (like New Teams is). You have both old and new. You can even run them concurrently.

But if running that actually runs New Outlook for you (some have reported that's the case), then:

    run Regedit.exe and go here:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences

And in that you will see UseNewOutlook

Set it to 0, which means that running old Outlook actually runs it.

Disabling new look no longer possible, and the option you show does not exist for us Mac users forced to use outlook.
