AOL Generate password Sorry, this feature is not available right now!

I spoke with AOL tech support 800-827-6364 today and was told this is a known issue they are working on. He said they are working through individual email accounts to correct the problem and to keep trying the app password creator periodically. You can still use the online aol mail and phone or tablet mail apps. My iPhone mail app works fine still.

Beware of tech support scams too. I called the first number that came up on Google and the guy said he needed to take control of my computer. When I declined he yelled that he cannot help me and I need to just hang up. I asked to speak with his supervisor and he said there is no one else there and hung up on me. I reported the scam to AOL ( I hope it was them) The AOL tech took down the number and said he will include the scam

I set up a workaround until they get their act sorted out.

This workaround forwards all emails sent to my verizon.net address, to Microsoft Outlook, using a Gmail email address. This way I can still use Outlook to receive emails sent my verizon.net email. I can also send emails using Outlook, but it 'sends' from the new Gmail account. Not ideal, but if like me, you're ready to drop AOL, this is useful until I notify everyone of my new Gmail address. I can continue to monitor what comes in to that verizon account for a couple of months. Once I'm sure only junk emails are coming into the verizon.net email address, I intend to turn off the forwarding feature and kiss AOL's **** goodbye.

I recently purchased a new laptop, and wanted to set up Microsoft Outlook to work with my Verizon email, like I had done for the last 15-20 yrs. I hate using the Web Mail option.

This is what I've done. Not ideal, but seems to work. I'm not a techie and I actually worked this out myself. It's actually quite easy to set up, despite the number of steps.

• Set up a Gmail email account, if you haven't already got one - I think it's "mail.google.com" (without quotations) to set one up
• Open Microsoft Outlook, go to the 'File' tab at the top left, click on 'Account Settings'.
• In the pop up window that opens, click on 'New' . A second pop-up window should open. In that second pop up window, in the 'Your Name' and 'E-mail Address' text windows, type in your name and new Gmail address . DO NOT enter anything in the Password' window YET, but leave the window open.
• Similar to AOL, Google also uses a one-time password generating App in order to use a third-party email App like Outlook, but unlike AOL's, Google's actually works.
• So, log into your Google Account (NOT your Gmail account), by going to "myaccount.google.com" (without quotation marks).
• Enter your username & password, then click on the account icon at the top right (this is usually a grey circle with your initial in it), then click on the 'Manage your Google Account' option.
• On the left side of the page that opens, select 'Security'
• On the next page, scroll down until you see 'Signing into Google' and below that you should see an option for 'App Passwords'. If you don't, you might have to turn on the '2-step Verification' option as well.
• Click on the 'App Passwords' option and then Google will ask you to sign in again with your Google password.
• The next window that opens will give you the option to generate a one-time password. Click on 'Generate', and either write down or 'Copy' (Ctrl-C) the password.
• Go back to the Outlook window that you left open earlier (but didn't fill in the password fields), and enter the one-time Google password you just generated.
• Click on 'Next', and your Gmail account should now be showing in Outlook.
• Now, go back to your AOL/Verizon web mail account. To do this go to "mail.aol.com" (without quotation marks), and log in. Once logged in, look at the top right, and under your email address you'll see 'Sign Out' and 'Options'. Select 'Options'
• In the 'Options' pull down menu, select 'Mail Settings's, and a new page should open. If not already highlighted by default, select the 'General' tab from the list on the left of the page. Towards the bottom of the page you should see 'Forward To' on the left with an empty space next to it where you can type in a forwarding email address.
• In the empty space, type in your new Gmail address, and click on 'Verify'
• Open Outlook, which should now be connected to you Gmail account, and look for a verification email from AOL. Open that email and 'Verify' the forwarding email address.
• All being well, all your incoming emails that are sent to your verizon.net email address, should be forwarded automatically by AOL to your new Gmail address, which is now connected to Microsoft Outlook.

It seems to be working for me, although I've only been doing it for 24 hrs. Fingers crossed it keeps working

Try again. I got in this morning and AOL generated a password for me and I'm back up in Outlook. Good luck.
