When sending emails from QuickBooks with Outlook, edits are discarded and the mail is sent as created by Quickbooks.

The Outlook bug in this year-old thread is back.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/cannot-edit-quickbooks-generated-outlook-emails/cc37fa11-b801-4df4-ac5a-0dfef52be63f

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create invoice in QuickBooks, click "Email" button.
  2. A draft email is created in Outlook from your default invoice template with the invoice attached.
  3. Edit that email - add or remove text, and send.
  4. Look in Sent Items. The sent email DOES NOT HAVE YOUR EDITS.

This is subtle, and super annoying - how often do you think to check if your e-mail got sent the way you wrote it? I only noticed because I went back to copy some text that I had written for a new e-mail and saw that it was missing from the email as sent.

    Andrew, All,

I am trying to repro the issue myself. When you process an invoice, what is the part that is missing when you check Sent Items? Is it the Customer Message section? I see this gets added to the PDF attached invoice. Is it missing from the PDF file?

Or, are you editing the email generated by QuickBooks and is that the text that is missing?

I was also in the process of using the IDNA tool and it definitely makes quickbooks not be able to open outlook at all. On mine it just says recieved no response freom outlook.

    Andrew,

I checked with our Escalation Engineers, and they say that the IDNA trace should not lock the OST. It could be our steps that need updating. One of the Escalation Engineers said he would help work through the trace with you. If you know a time you could work on this please let me know. Or, please respond in the In App ticket and we will coordinate it with you. Thanks for taking time to help us with this.

I have pending tasks for the ticket, but have not been able to complete them as of yet. Should be today or tomorrow - sorry. As far as the traces go, the debugging process somehow prevented QuickBooks from creating emails with Outlook. When the debugger was enabled, QuickBooks would report that the OST file was in use and could not be opened to create the email.
