When sending emails from QuickBooks with Outlook, edits are discarded and the mail is sent as created by Quickbooks.

The Outlook bug in this year-old thread is back.

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/cannot-edit-quickbooks-generated-outlook-emails/cc37fa11-b801-4df4-ac5a-0dfef52be63f

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create invoice in QuickBooks, click "Email" button.
  2. A draft email is created in Outlook from your default invoice template with the invoice attached.
  3. Edit that email - add or remove text, and send.
  4. Look in Sent Items. The sent email DOES NOT HAVE YOUR EDITS.

This is subtle, and super annoying - how often do you think to check if your e-mail got sent the way you wrote it? I only noticed because I went back to copy some text that I had written for a new e-mail and saw that it was missing from the email as sent.

    Try this as per Microsoft

Thank you for your patience with me. Copy the text below and paste it to the Notepad file, then click on 'File' > 'Save as' and select your Desktop. Lastly, save it with the name 'Outlook.reg' (without the quotes) as a REG file. Note: Please remove the extension '*.txt', while saving the file.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides] "ofqmojruwvzbn60"="false"

Lastly, double-click on the REG file (Located on your Desktop) to merge it and restart your computer. After the change, please restart the PC and let us know the result.

The only fix that worked for me was to turn off Cached mode in Outlook:
File, Account Settings, Account Name and Sync Settings.
Uncheck the box that says: Use Cached Exchange Mode.

Hope this saves someone the 3 days I lost trying to resolve this issue.

Thanks for the response...I tried via the outlook "Get Help" option within outlook 2019 and there does not seem to be an option to open a support ticket. I will try again tomorrow.

    thx again

I opened the support ticket right in Outlook with the Contact Support item in the Help menu. This seemed to get me to some guys who knew Outlook pretty well, and we talked at a high technical level right from the start.

the key is a per user key in Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\ExperimentEcs\Overrides and has an obfuscated name, but maybe that's enough to get you on the track with their support.

It's definitely an Outlook issue. I'm working with Microsoft support on it. There is a regkey they can give you that fixes the problem by preventing some change that they have been making from taking effect. They told me not to distribute it.

Until the fix is out, save to draft, *close the mail*, and reopen or flip to RTF and back to HTML seems to be the workaround.
