I have been trying to run the "NEW" outlook for a few months now. It is SOOO frustrating to use as commands and functions have just been deleted. Adding files to an email has become a chore and now requires extra steps! I DON'T want to send a link; I want to send the file itself... it is so confusing.
Viewing an attachment becomes a whole new experience as it doesn't open the app related to the file type but leads you down more complicated corridors. Saving attachments is also time consuming as it saves it (unless you are careful) in some sort of folder on One Drive.
I run three accounts (corporate, outlook.com and gmail.com) on mail plus I monitor a few shared folders as well. What used to be simple is now a real chore! Want to change how often in checks for mail... forget it. want to change the functions when it goes to get the mail. Completely disappeared.
Switching back to the "old version" froze the application as it could not update the Outlook account. It is a real tragedy that we seem to have to accept this as the "only" version soon. I am already looking around for alternatives. I have now reverted back to "OLD" and fixed the problem with mail. I have send a note to the organization to NEVER try and load this cut down version... it is a terrible replacement.
Come on Microsoft, you can do better than this.... or is it impossible!!

I can't believe MS took a near perfect product and turned it into "Franken"Outlook. Nothing about it works properly now and it takes three or four steps to do what I used to be able to do in one. Progress this is not!
30+ years ago, I believe, Microsoft had a saying 'Embrace-Extend-Extinguish'. Back then there were many other software brands such as:
Word Perfect my wife assures me much more user-friendly than Word
Quatro Pro spookily similar to Excel
Supercalc- much much better than Excel in those days!
Etc. etc.
My theory is that MS EEE'd them all. Their operating system wouldn't accept other software apps. This way all software competition to Microsoft was Extinguished.
I have never considered MS to be innovative; new versions of their software merely generate fresh and more revenue for them by causing confusion like the latest version of Outlook. I have just endured a stressful morning thanks to MS Teams; I'd far prefer Skype!
I'm afraid that all the stupid problems we now encounter with MS software started 30+years ago when all the competition was eradicated.
Put it this way: If I owned 100% of the worlds production of bread, I could sell stale loafs and get away with it, make a fortune- charge top dollar for 2nd rate bread. Be a Billionaire!
Same thing with MS in my humble opinion.

This out look update resembles a Highschool programming project with the highschooler lacking experience and just not knowing what they are doing.
Honestly, I believe they started the whole app from scratch, programming it from ground zero. NOBODY in their right mind would or could remove this much functionality from a business app in good faith and be clueless about it. They need to refresh their UX pool big time.
Quite honestly I have noticed a trend with the Office suite in general seeming updating their apps for the simpletons and the inept. Taking power and control away with each and every update.
But THIS new outlook is ridiculous. Getting rid of the VBA and macro tools.... Breaking Drag and drop. Everything about this update screams we don't care about the SERIOUS users only the mass users who use outlook as a toy not a business tool.
They broke the ability to drag attachment sent to outlook in to windows Explorer.
They broke the ability to click "you replied on..." and create a list of related emails in the thread.
They broke the ability to load/read old saved *.msg files from past Outlook versions
They even broke to the ability to load and read emails save directly from this new outlook as an *.eml file.
Are you listening Microsoft?? you released software that can't read files it created??
That is like Word saving a *.docx file and then not being able to open it back up.
You broke easy access to unsent drafts by removing the red [Draft] signifier that let you easily see replies you have started but not sent yet.
You removed the quick links and thus the save draft ability and do not give option to add it back in on the simplified or classic ribbon.
Sad. Very sad.
Having the same irritating problem!
I have been trying to run the "NEW" Outlook as well and we use it for business. Nothing about this works for a business. I can't copy and paste and put the information in my contacts for referrals when I have to go back to look up something. You have to go into the new email that you're creating by going out and then going back in and save it as a draft then you can attach things to it. I can't even copy and paste an email without doing that. Also the calendar does not have a system for reminders and so I got written up at work because I didn't show up to a meeting unaware that my reminder was not there anymore, I just figured that out.
Please give the businesses the option to be able to go back to the old program for Outlook as it worked perfectly for us. Thank you for listening.
I first posted this in August last year to vent my frustration with the damn program. I am amazed to see so many fellow sufferers offering the same views and opinions. I have never even looked at it since and just hope that when I reload the program after my semiannual "flush and reload" that it is there for me to download.
I also note that some of the posts indicate that they are of a certain age where they have used Outlook since its inception (like me, I am 68) and now struggle. It does seem to give the notion it was made for the latest Generation of users in mind.
I find it amazing that no one from Microsoft has turned up to offer any explanation for the unwanted changes or problems that traditional users face.
What are you thinking Microsoft? No defense of the "new" product and zero comments on the opinions. Shame on you.
