The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again. HOW LONG IS THAT MOMENT?

Today I received an email from Microsoft saying

Security alert
We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account ed**___@___.___. When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.

I've changed logged in, went through the security checks, and I've changed my password, but now when I try to log in, it tells me

Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later. The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again.

I'm on a Mac, and I can't access it through the Mail app, nor through a web browser. I've cleared the cache, I've restarted both the app and the browsers and the computer, I've tried different browsers, as well as Incongito Window mode, with no luck. It works on my phone Outlook app, though. But I can't access my emails on my computer?

Any ideas? How long do I have to wait to try it again? I've allowed an hour to pass and I'm still experiencing the same issue.

Thanks.

I was able to login when I turned off Nord VPN Threat Protection Pro. This is really annoying but that was the fix for me.

I tried a number of things like opening a new browser window but logging out before I got the error again and then logging back in solved it for me. This is a while later, so something else is going on.

You know what’s hilarious, since i’ve had my account locked for 3 weeks hotmail/xbox because someone attempted to get it ( and possibly did )

They don’t give you no help because of the “safety” of customer’s information, Microsoft now souly rely on an automated system and there jobs seems to be so boring when on the phone with them they sound like they’re about to fall asleep ( personal experience )

If anyone is at the point i am where i’ve tried and looked at every crevice for help advise etc extra proof of verification that its me etc all hope is lost.

everyone sends you round the same roundabouts over and over

Also! There is no way to lodge a formal complaint to try and reach someone higher up, so now i have a hotmail which is active that i cannot access & a pretty old and heavy sentimental xbox account i cannot use especially with these past few years from expensive game purchases, they just want you to pay for it all again, i genuinely wish we could boycott Microsoft

I also have this issue. It is a problem with Microsoft edge. I can open and use the app with Firefox.

Many people have had this problem and Microsoft refuses to make a fix.
