Today Nov 11, 2022 I received an email from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** with the heading Disabling TLS 1.0/1l1 for POP3 and IMAP4 on December 01, 2022. Is this real or spam?

I received an email that read: Starting on December 01, 2022, Office 365 will begin retiring Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 for POP3 and IMAP4. TLS is a standard protocol used to provide secure web communications for POP3 and IMAP4. Pop3 and IMAP4 are the client/server protocols for receiving emails. We will enforce TS 1.2 moving forward to provide enhanced encryption and help ensure your emails are received more securely. We have already disabled TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for most Microsoft 365 services in the worldwide environment.

WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN - December 01, 2022

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? Our records show that your email account has reently been accessed with POP#/IMAP4 through TLS 1.0 or 1.1. POP3 and IMAP4 will not be able to receive emails with POP3/IMAP4 protocol after that. To continue accessing your email accoutn using POP3 or IMAP4, please upgrade/update your client support TLS1.2 Your emails will not be removed, but you cannot access them without upgrading your client. I do not have Office 365. I have an old hotmail account, that I access through Windows on a desktop computer, and also on my Apple phone. I'm at a loss of what I should do. The letter I got sent today to my email account seems to think that I have Office 365, but I don't. Is there anyone out there that can even tell me if this is a true Microsoft email that I received? And, is there a phone number or an email address that I can write to, so that I can get easy directions, or instructions on how I can continue to access my hotmail account after December 1, 2022? Thank you

    Ok I will make that deal with you!

    Yes, the install of my Office 2010 did ask for my key the very first time I installed it on my old Dell back in 2014. And, yes, it did ask me for my key today as well. (It's really my son's key from when/where he went to college). I'm relieved it was verified and accepted!

    I'm not sure if it would be accepted a 3rd time!

    I may take a wait and see approach to whether or not I should do the uninstall, and reinstall, with SP 2.

    What I can't figure out, is why 365 is still hanging around. I really did uninstall it. And, it no longer shows up in my list of programs. But, the Red Shaped kind of Square that is the logo for Office 365 (or Microsoft 365) not sure what to call it, still shows up as OFFICE. Weird, huh?

    I'll look again into everything over the weekend!

    I'm contemplating uninstalling Office, and then trying to reinstall it. Maybe that would work? I'm completely out of ideas.

    Probably the easiest and cleanest approach - uninstall '2010 and then reinstall again along with the Service Pack. Out of curiosity, did '2010 ask you for a product key the first time you installed it.

    The Word 2010 version is no longer letting me copy and paste. It was letting me do it when I still had Microsoft Trial 365 on here. But, now that's uninstalled, and I'm having this new issue because it's gone, or something really needs to be repaired. And, repair isn't looking like an option.

    I'm contemplating uninstalling Office, and then trying to reinstall it. Maybe that would work? I'm completely out of ideas.

    Hi again Karl! I'm sorry to be taking up so much of your time, I know you're busy with helping so many other people!

    I went to settings Apps, etc. , scrolled down and .... I uninstalled Microsoft 365. I believe the uninstall was successful. The name of Microsoft 365 is no longer in the list.

    Next, I went to the control panel- programs, uninstall or change. I read that I could select the program in the list, and then click on it to uninstall, change, or repair.

    When I clicked on it, the only choices I get are uninstall or change. Repair wasn't an option I had. Shoot! I'm hoping the repair option wasn't an option because it didn't need any repairs? Or, maybe it's just so old, that any repairs it may need, may need to be found a different way?

    That's it for now. I'm hoping very much that very soon, I will be finished with getting everything up and running, and then I won't need to keep being a pain in the **** ... I truly am sorry for continuing to depend on you for answers. I'm going to try to be more independent (when this all gets settled - hahaha - so you may need to put up with me a just little longer!)

    Not sure if I’ll get to it tonight, but, it’s possible! Thanks for instructions .. what needs to be “repaired” with Office 2010. Do you feel the installation was bad because of Trial Version of 365 is still there?

    You should always <repair> the current version if you uninstall another version just to make sure that everything is set properly. Just a normal practice to make sure you don't run into any issues - it's no big deal
