Why does Microsoft want to charge me for Hotmail service when I have deleted almost all messages ?

I have used hotmail for free for more than ten years. Today I received a message from Microsoft telling me that I don't have enough space and I cannot send or receive messages. They say I have to pay monthly or annually to be able to do that. I have deleted almost all my messages from Hotmail, but the message is still there. I feel Microsoft is forcing me to pay for hotmail now.

    Hi never got anything like that, ended up having to pay €1.99 a month for my 15 yrs of free hotmail i was stopped from using it if i didn't pay and i keep getting notifications from google services your account storage is full and won't be able to "feels like use anything" don't know what to do, i am not tech savvy, i thought getting my last phone with 512 gb storage would cover all this

    Microsoft support will probably contact you after your post. They did for me. They then gave me a link where i could see all the messages in my Sent folder that had attachments and that I could bulk delete. Strangely, without this link I was not able to see which messages were using up a lot of storage. But then they gave me access and I could delete and I could continue to use my Hotmail

    Yes, I have the same problem after over 20 years with a hotmail account. I refuse to start paying for a personal account with barely any incoming emails. Now, I will have to literally everything switch over to a different email, which will be a slow process, but one I’m willing to take seeing that I feel like I’m in a hostage situation. Thanks a lot for the grief.

    I switched and receive and send emails on a different server for free. After 30 years, Hotmail and Gates can shove it!

    Microsoft is shady. This monthly charge is “nonsense”. It’s a way to “force” people to delete certain “sensitive” information out of their email inbox. Since I wrote this post and my first post, now all of a sudden I cannot get into my email inbox at all!!!
