Will there be a way to continue using Windows mail instead of the new Outlook?

I keep seeing that Outlook is supposed to take over Windows Mail as the default mail app. But will the Windows Mail app still be available to use? I do not want to be forced to use Outlook. When I tried the preview, it had ads that I thought were my actual mail, and the app I find is just too busy overall. I don't want a bunch of stuff in the way of me reading my email. Windows Mail is simple, I like the interface, it's not too busy, and my mail is prominent within the window.

Edit 2025:
I got tired of the shenanigans and switched to Wino Mail app. I will likely switch to Linux OS in the future as MS is starting to go off the rails.

Hello Skeleton! My name is Jeremy and I’m happy to help you with your question.

Although Outlook will be the new default mail app, you can still change your default mail app back to Windows Mail and use Windows mail.

I understand your concern and appreciate your viewpoint so when the time comes do not worry you will still be able to use Windows Mail.

This change is referring to what apps are shipped with Windows 11 not that the apps will no longer work for old users.

Regards,

If you are technically minded, you could try disabling the new Outlook if you wish to keep using the old Mail and Calendar app. I am still using the old Mail app. But there is no guarantee it will continue working with successive Windows updates.

Or you could add your e mail accounts to the new Outlook if you don't mind the regular advertisements Microsoft will send you. Another possibility is to install third party mail and calendar apps. Some have suggested "Wino Mail" and "One Calendar" from the app store. There is also the "Thunderbird" e mail client.

    Kind regards

    Chris

I gave in. Switched to Mailbird. Liking it so far (I use paid version for O365 email).
I was seriously considering switching to Ubuntu because of whole debacle, I might still do!

Microsoft is under investigation. I have contacted the State Attorneys General in my state as well as Microsoft's Corporate location in ST. Louis MO. I have also hired a private attorney for in-depth history of Microsoft Business Practices.

FYI: When I became part of the Windows Preview Program back in 2007 (Windows Vista), part of the benefits were to receive the Beta Version for free. Over time this began to change. I noticed that Windows versions were being offered for free whether or not you were part of the Preview Program.

Naturally, Microsoft would experience the loss of revenue. So, they offer Windows for free, in exchange for manipulation of the End User's vital, and vulnerable information. You really want to know why there is identity theft, it started with Microsoft. Microsoft and outsourcing their technical department overseas. Then, everyone other corporation jumped on the band wagon.

In reference to AI, it was geared towards the unintellectual. People that are incapable of writing complete sentences, using correct grammar and syntax. It also assists the End User in making a decision instead of them making it on their own. It quite prevalent just how lazy America has gotten.

I have used this so called free AI technology. Information is inaccurate, and unconcise.

    Face your future's End!
