Outlook 2016 repeatedly asking for Password for gmail account

Sorry but I had to leave this for a while as it was upsetting me too much. I came back to it today with a clean install of Office 2010 and WIndows 10 I walked through switching on 2FA in the Google account and getting an <App Password> much as that runs against the grain of sensibility for security. Sadly even with the clean install of windows and office Gmail would not accept the <App Password>. Each time I tried setting things up I got this;

This was using SSL and the port settings from Gmail help pages and <App Password> that Gmail gave. So clearly Google have changed their gateway to kill use of older software. In May I bought the Office Pro Plus in good faith through Amazon and whilst that may well install with the keys that I got, then given the fact that I'm told it is a 'scam rip off' I can't use it. I did try and contact Amazon and the seller to register my disgust at the likes of Mr Bezos profiteering by facilitating scam sales.

Your suggestion to use the email client built into windows 10 may provide some sort of access but I doubt that it would use a .pst file to download and store my mail which was the whole point of trying to fix things. I have not found any real documentation on this, and Microsoft do not really support end users. Were it not for the likes of you I think the products would fail completely for use by non corporate users.

I suspect that were I to switch email service provider to the microsoft Outlook.com system that the situation would be the same with Office 2010 in that it would need some sort of <app password> and even then I doubt the protocols in Office 2010 would work. That leaves me with no place where I can use email services that will allow my apps access to retain my mail securely at home in a neat mail package. The old .pst system worked so well for that but it is now a dead system for private individuals who cannot sustain the subscription fees or won't because there is no true MS support even if they did. I cannot bring myself to subscribe for a package that I have bought 5 or 6 times already at over huge prices each time and which, security protocol aside, is no better that the original issue or outlook back in the 1990's.

I am now planning that I'll have to go and shut down all online accounts that use my email address, as you can imagine that its not great.

Thank you for your help, I hoped it would work but it didn't and sadly Google were worse than useless which is why they are getting the chop.

Overall I have given up ever expecting to use outlook for mail again.

Before you give up on email altogether, have you tried

#1 - Make sure 2FA is turned off on Gmail

#2 - Configure the account using the WIndows 10/11 Mail app?

Won't be anywhere near the same as Outlook but will still give you email capabilities

Set up email in the Mail app (microsoft.com)

You may also consider taking a look at <emClient> as your email client. It's free if you only have 2 email accounts, you might find it easier

All duly noted Karl I tried to be careful and have commented since back to Amazon for allowing such to be peddled on their brand banner site.

I have installed my fully correct Office 2010 but find the Google account stuff as just another complex version of the MS account site. I struggled with the 2FA requirements in that it needs a my phone, that sort of seemed ok but the emergency account protection and recovery stuff with Apps and one time codes that need to be all kept somewhere safe and secure is just to much complication. Overall I have given up ever expecting to use outlook for mail again. The masses of people struggling in the communities trying to sort this stuff out on both Google and MS sites has completely finished computer based email for me. I can no longer secure email safely on my hardware in a tidy way. That means I will have to ditch all my places online where email is needed.... so pretty much everything. Pen and paper and no online shopping or other services that use email as an App Password is like giving keys your life to the thief.

I looked in my MS account under subscriptions and there is nothing showing for Office 2019 pro plus.

That regrettably says it all. Your only recourse is to deal with the reseller - something that is likely to be nothing more than a waste of time at this point.

Lastly as a FYI, all legitimate consumer versions of perpetual (one time purchase) licenses can only be used on one computer at a time BUT can be transferred to another computer. The only requirement is that these must be associated with a Microsoft Account which a volume license key wouldn't be - hence all the aggravation.
