How to get rid of a new tab on Outlook upper tool bar stating: Try the new Outlook. It recently popped up & replaced my "delete" tab, which is now inside the scroll down menu.

Edited to add: Note that the registry key applies only to classic Outlook desktop software (2016, 2019, 2021, Outlook in Microsoft Office 365 software). It does not work for Windows Mail.

You're talking about the button in my screenshot? It's not a toolbar but you can hide it using a registry key -

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
DWORD: HideNewOutlookToggle
Value: 1

Start typing regedit on the start menu and when the Registry Editor comes up, open it.

Browse to the path, right click on the right side and choose New > DWORD. Paste HideNewOutlookToggle, press enter then right click on it and choose modified and choose modify. change 0 to 1. \

Restart Outlook.

Not to mention the end of Nokia.

That button should be removed. MS's behavior in recent years is shameful.

I think there is some confusion here... I want to hide the Try New Outlook bar in the Windows Live Mail that comes bundled with Windows 10, and I don't use Microsoft Office so I don't have the Office 16 folder. If I simply click Dismiss it goes away then comes back again after a few days, instead I want to get rid of it permanently. Is that possible?

The confusion is likely because this thread is about classic Outlook.

Windows Mail & Calendar does not have an option to remove / hide the switch. Sorry. It is going away this fall and the new Outlook is replacing it.

No can do. First off, there's no such thing as Office\16.0\Outlook version for me, and if I use the only one that has Outlook in it (10.0) with an Options\General key wherein I can create a new DWORD "HideNewOutlookToggle" and set the flag to 1, it does exactly nothing. The switch in Mail stays where it is.

But if these schmucks think I'm a brain-amputated test monkey and they can force their "force-save-all-their-comms-in-our-cloud" horseshite onto me anyway to facilitate the centralisation of all MS customer email communications, then by 2024 I'll just holler a hearty "Shove yer **** where the sun don't shine, and I certainly don't mean London!".... I'm out of here and will get rid of MS OS altogether. W10 was the last OS for me anyway, the next thing I'm getting rid of will be Mail, ahem, 2024 Outlook.

Doesn't even deserve the name when I think back of our ol' Outlook that they ripped out of the latest Windows versions, those bastards making our virtual lives and data protection ever more uncomfortable, as if for trained, brain-damaged test monkeys, eh? But count me out, MS, count me out!

version 16005.14326.21740.0 I have used every tip i have found online so far none of them work. I have also created registry keys and installed the dword as specified on all the tips online. none of them work. nagging popup still exists...

Are you using Windows Mail or Microsoft Outlook as your email client? If I go to Settings | Apps | Apps and Features I can see that 16005.14326.21740.0 is the current version number of the Mail and Calendar app that is built into my Win 10 OS, not the version number of Microsoft Outlook that comes with a paid subscription of a Microsoft Office suite (currently Version 2310 / Build 16924.20150) like Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office 2016 / 2019 / 2021 Click-to-Run.

The HideNewOutlookToggle registry key edit Diane Poremsky suggested <here> on 12-Feb-2023 will only hide the "Try the New Outlook" toggle switch in Microsoft Outlook, not in Windows Mail.

The July 2023 BleepingComputer article Microsoft force-migrating Windows Mail & Calendar apps to Outlook app in August states that the Mail and Calendar app is being retired in 2024 and will no longer be supported or available for download, so at some point in the coming months users who are still using the built-in Windows Mail app as their email client will be forced to switch to the “new” Outlook for Windows progressive web app (PWA).

If users don’t like the “new” Outlook for Windows PWA when they are finally forced to abandon their Mail and Calendar app they might consider switching to a free third-party email client like Thunderbird or eM Client.
