Use iCloud+ Custom Email Domain with Outlook for Windows

What do you use as a password in case of a custom domain email? It doesn't accept the generated app key nor my actual password but results with INVALIDCREDENTIALS INTERACTIONREQUIRED -error message in troubleshooting details. This is with Outlook on Windows 11 and the settings are already a bit different since there is no advaced settings -option.

I got Outlook 365 to work with a custom iCloud Mail Domain. These are the steps to take:

Lets say our custom mail is john_AT_home_DOT_com (sorry for the unusual format, but its not possible to write out proper email addresses in this forum).

1. log into https://appleid.apple.com under "email and phone number" make sure john_AT_home_DOT_com is your primary address (not sure if this step is actually necessary, but i added it just in case).
2. still in https://appleid.apple.com create an "application specific password" and write it down.
3. in Outlook 365 go to "File > Add Account"
4. enter john_AT_home_DOT_com as your mail address (not your icloud.com address) and make sure "i want to add my account manually" is selected under "advanced settings".
5. Select IMAP
6. enter the following data: incoming server: imap.mail.me.com Port: 993 encryption: SSL/TLS outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com Port: 587 encryption: STARTTLS
7. done

john_AT_home_DOT_com is now added in Outlook 365. It should be possible to send and receive mails with this address.

If you want to send mails from one of your other aliases eg. john2_AT_home_DOT_com, finalise the setup with the following steps.

8. log into https://www.icloud.com/icloudplus/ and make sure john2_AT_home_DOT_com is added under "Custom Email Domain".
9. In Office 365 start writing a new mail
10. click on the "From" field and select "Other Email Address"
11. enter john2_AT_home_DOT_com and make sure under john_AT_home_DOT_com is selected under "sending with".
12. done

When sending a mail, you can now select john2_AT_home_DOT_com in the "From" field and the mail will have that address as a sender.

This does not work. I’m running windows 10 with “new outlook” and there is absolutely no “change/edit” option anywhere within outlook settings. When selecting “manage” on my iCloud email account, the only options are “remove” or “set as primary account”. There is no change/edit. I have tried every suggestion to add my iCloud+ custom domain email and nothing works. Is this really the best Microsoft can do?

Outlook for Mac here (Version 16.83). I have iCloud + with several custom domains and I REALLY want to use Outlook because you know, I'm paying for Office 365.

So by default in Mac OS, Outlook will give you an error that it doesn't support iCloud+ Custom domains, and I can't modify the imap settings where the email is one address, and the authentication is another. It looked like it got created, but I couldn't send any email.

It did however work in Legacy Mode. I would create the iCloud imap account, and change the email address to the custom one, with the iCloud id for authentication. It's just unfortunate, because I want to use the latest and greatest if I'm paying for it.

The other issue I had was my iPad and iPhone outlook settings. This definitely doesn't have the same options as the desktop legacy. So what I ended up doing:

1. Log into Outlook.com
2. Click the 3-DOT menu and click SETTINGS
3. Goto MAIL in the left menu => SYNC MAIL
4. Under EMAIL ALIASES, "Manage or Choose Primary Alias"
5. Log in if needed and you'll find ACCOUNT ALIASES
6. Click ADD EMAIL
7. Choose the 2nd Option on the next screen to use an existing email
8. Click ADD ALIAS
9. Click the CONFIRM EMAIL next to the new alias.
10. Go back to iOS Outlook and add your Microsoft Outlook account
11. Now add your iCloud account using your Apple ID
12. You may need to perform an account reset on the Microsoft Account to force sync the settings as it may take a few minutes.
13. Now when you create a new email, you now have the options to choose the aliases from your Outlook.com account or the native iCloud one.

Here's the caveat to this: Outlook uses a proxy address on your behalf if you send with the Outlook Alias and will most likely show as name-at-domain.com via Outlook.com on gmail, or outlook12345-at-outlook.com on behalf of ******@domain.com.

BUT when the recipient his reply on their end, it will reply using proper email address name-at-domain.com and not the proxy.

It looks ugly IMO, because I want to look legitimate, but I'll accept it for now since I'm not a spammer and I'll have my sig with the address as well, and the recipient can reply to that as well.
