UPDATE - HAD TO DELETE AND RE-ADD AS IMAP

I received notifications that Gmail may no longer work with Outlook. However, the communication noted that Gmail will work with Outlook 2019 which I am using. Starting today, by Gmail will not work with outlook. I receive an error

Task '******@gmail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92) : 'Your email server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted."

Is there an additional setting to make this work in Outlook 2019?

I was able to get the POP mail to work again

Here is the workaround Google Support sent me.

We found a workaround for your Outlook issue. You may try tosign in with app passwords

Create & use App Passwords

If you use 2-Step-Verification and get a "password incorrect" error when you sign in, you can try to use an App Password.

  1. Go to your Google Account.
  2. Select Security.
  3. Under "Signing in to Google," select App Passwords. You may need to sign in. If you don’t have this option, it might be because:
    1. 2-Step Verification is not set up for your account.
    2. 2-Step Verification is only set up for security keys.
    3. Your account is through work, school, or other organization.
    4. You turned on Advanced Protection.
  4. At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using and then Select device and choose the device you’re using and then Generate.
  5. Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
  6. Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Once you go through that you can use the Generated Password for your POP account

Hope this helps you all

My Outlook 2019 has always been configured POP/SMTP and the SMTP setting is Port 465 with Encryption method SSL/TLS. Looking on the Gmai9l help screens they seem to be saying to use Port 587. I tried it, still no joy. Bottom line is Gmail stopped working last night (june 2) for possibly millions of people who use Outlook 2019 and variants. If I can't use Gmail with my Outlook client I simply won't use Gmail, simple. Maybe that's someone's plan?

Same as you but: Problem solved (for now).

As an IT guy \ Developer with 30 years exp. I'm shocked at the stupidity of Google brazen action.

    Now to my solution:

    1. Enable forwarding (in gmail) to my other email address outside of gmail.
    2. Confirmed forwarding on other email address outside gmail.
    3. Pasted the code inside forwarding section of gmail.
    4. Click Save on bottom of screen in forwarding page inside gmail.
    5. Test forwarding

It was less than 5 minutes before my outlook 2019 began back to S/R emails as usual.

Not sure how long this will work. I guess your milage may vary.

Finally, I will setup an auto responder to advise senders of my new email. I wanted to divorce Google for a while now. This was the last straw for me. BTW, been using Bing for last couple of years and am happy, google is my fallback.

    Best

    Hi Diane,

I tried the "Update Password" advise. I received the following error message in Outlook 2019:

"Something went wrong and Outlook couldn't update our password. Please verify your password and try again. If the problem continues, contact your email administrator."

Is there anything I can try next?

Hello! My Outlook 2019 Gmail email came back up at 10:00 Pacific time. Wow! Nice work everyone. Whatever we did....it is back up for me and my wife and our non-profit organization.

    Cheers!

    Hello -

Thank you cbell for starting this string and Dianne for writing the suggestion.

I woke to this same issue this morning for two POP and one IMAP accounts. (All are Gmail and were working just fine yesterday.)

I was able to get the IMAP resolved by removing Microsoft Apps etc. from the privacy settings third-party apps permissions in my Google Account, and then re-allowing access. (I re-allowed access by going back to Outlook where a Google pop-up window re-appeared like it did when I first set up the account in Outlook.)

I was hopeful this would also work for POP accounts; however, I can't trigger the Google pop-up prompt to sign into the Google account to allow access to Microsoft programs again.

I also tried adding the password via multiple methods including but not limited to the one you suggested and through the email accounts from Control Panel. Sadly, none worked.

Is the only option at this point to delete the accounts in Outlook and add them back in?

Do you know why this might have happened suddenly for the 9 people who found this string and clicked the "I have the same question" button and the person who wrote the original post?

    Thanks!
