Outlook External Email Tag

Hello Everyone,

I have an employee that opened a ticket with my help desk about his Outlook Desktop Application. Yesterday he noticed an "External" tag that appeared on his inbox in front of the Sender. Is this a new Outlook feature or is there a way to remove this tag from view. Our organization already has a tag inside the email warning employee's of the external/internal status of the email.

Other users including myself do not see this in their Desktop Apps, we do see it in the Online Version of Outlook though.

    Just a comment for interest's sake...

    Whilst I can understand the frustration, I am just going through Cyber Insurance renewals for this year, and both of the Insurance companies require us to have the "External" tag in place. If we cannot do it, we need to provide the reason we can't. I expect this will become a widespread feature going forward, I myself found this thread while looking for how to turn it on for our organization.

    I'm sure we have all seen Spam with "Internal" sender names, but from external email addresses, I think this is primarily to remind people to think twice.

    Who came up with this brilliant idea?

    The Powershell command does not work. I get the following error message:
    Set-ExternalInOutlook : The term 'Set-ExternalInOutlook' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

    At line:1 char:1

    • Set-ExternalInOutlook –Enabled $false
    •
    • CategoryInfo : ObjectNotFound: (Set-ExternalInOutlook:String) [], CommandNotFoundException
    • FullyQualifiedErrorId : CommandNotFoundException

    Any idea what I am doing wrong?

    Do you have the ExchangeOnlineManagement module installed, and did you connect to Exchange online first? 

    Import-Module ExchangeOnlineManagement

    it is really amazing solution. easy and workable. I hate any forced applied not communicated features which who think it is suitable for me.
