My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

Dank, dank.

I believe that registry edit was first suggested by ForrestGump on 06-Jul-2023 in post # 2571699 in 77JOE84's Outlook MS Pro+ 2021 Start-up Options Disappeared in the AskWoody forum, and several users replied in that thread that re-creating the ReopenWindowsOption registry entry (value type = REG_DWORD, value = 1) at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences stops the “Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session?” prompt from appearing when Outlook is started. However, this workaround does not fix the problem where the Outlook settings at File | Options | General | Start Up Options are missing.

This registry edit seems to stop the "Outlook closed while you had items open...." prompt for most users but doesn't work for everyone. However, it's possible the registry entry you created didn't work because you used a hexidecimal number for your value instead of simply entering the digit "1".

I'd suggest that anyone wanting to try this workaround follow the instructions in the MSOutlook.info tutorial Editing the Registry at https://www.msoutlook.info/question/290, which shows how to add a registry entry called "ShowBcc" at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Preferences (value type = REG_DWORD, value =1). If you follow those instructions just substitute the value name "ShowBcc" used in that example with "ReopenWindowsOption".

    From Google Translate:

Just to confirm or reaffirm that on my 2016 MS Outlook I get rid of the pop-up permantly by unticking or unselecting the 'Store Outlook Settings to Cloud'.

When I do that it never comes back. If I select or tick that option it WILL come back.

This of course is NOT a fix but 'workaround' and still no fix to reinstate the drop down options for Start Up Options.

All quite strange when it's not just one year or version being affected (aside from the perpetual Outlook email client versions) and to reiterate we await some form of proper or logical response from Microsoft or better still - a fix!!!!!

I won't keep repeating myself but the end 'general' user should NOT have to fiddle with registry keys or code.

Perhaps they just want us to use MS Outlook 365!!?? Although as they are more than a wealthy company and business one would not expect such tactics..........?

Good luck and we continue to hold our breath.

    Cheers - Terry

    Teleurstellend.
