My Outlook 2016 "Start Up Options menu" has no drop down submenu

I have Outlook 2016 on my home computer. Within the last few weeks, on reopening Outlook, I have received the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?".

I have tried to remove this function via File; Options; General; Start up options, but  my Start up options title does not have a drop down menu !

I have opened and reopened the Options menu, but to no avail. Nor is there an option to press on the heading "Start up options" which is located between Privacy Settings and Attachment options

I'm sure that I must have closed Outlook in the past without closing all items, but this message has only begun appearing within the last week.

Is there a fix?

    Jason,

Further to my message a few minutes ago, I have just realised that the MS Outlook details quoted by me were presumably those of the original version~ after clicking on “About Outlook” ~ (Outlook 2016 MSO Version 2306; Build 16.0.16529.20100 32bit)

The details opposite the “About Outlook" button are ---- Version 2306 (Build 16529.20182 Click- to- Run)

    Apologies for the error.

    Good afternoon, Jason,

In reply to your enquiry of 15^th^ July: ~

    1. Windows 10 Pro; Version 22H; Build 19045.3208
    2. Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016
    3. Outlook 2016 MSO Version 2306; Build 16.0.16529.20100 32bit

Let me mention the following, strange, event: ~

    • I also have a mini laptop loaded with the same Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Professional 2016 systems, but only used whilst on holiday.
    • The strange Outlook messages began appearing in my desktop computer at the beginning of July but, as previously reported couldn’t be removed via “Start-up Options” – since there were no dropdown panels.
    • Out of curiosity I opened my laptop (last used in March 2023) and found within Outlook at File>Options>General> Start-up Options ~ the dropdown list as illustrated within the Diane Poremsky web page, with the option to cancel the reopening of previous items!!
    • I chose this option and ~ although the drop-down menu has since disappeared from ***“***Start-up options” I no longer receive the annoying messages when opening Outlook on my mini laptop, unlike when using my desktop computer.

It would appear that my “un-updated” version of Outlook on the mini laptop did include the Start-up options ----------- before being updated within hours after I began using it again!

All very strange, but I do appreciate your attempts to resolve the issue

This also affects my Outlook 2016.

No drop-down beside the Startup option and have been getting the message "Outlook closed while you had items open . Reopen these items from your last session ?" repeatedly for about two or three weeks.

Windows 10 Pro OS Build 19045.3208

    Office Professional Plus 2016

    Outlook Version 2306 (Build 16529.20182 Click-to-Run)

Why doesn't Microsoft take responsibility and provid a fix or work around?

    Hi Pete,

Yes it was a great first half all right. Awesome pace precision & skill. Good start 'up' lol (pardon the pun) to w/cup year.

Thanks for the heads up on the 2nd issue work around. Is that under Woody per Drcard:)) & Forrest Gump?, Pete. That I just browsed.

Your 1st work around is still 'ticking' (there I go again!) along for my Outlook 2016 nicely with still no Pop-ups - by disabling/unticking the Store Outlook Settings to Cloud - I have these settings backed up in a file anyway - thus while I say with irony "I will leave it that way" 'as if its not broken I'll not fix it' i.e. technically it is bkn by ommission or error by MS recent update in June, and hope the darn pop - up stays away which it seems to be doing, as per your 1st work around mentioned herein which is working for my Outlook real well. Strange your (this first simple work around) did the trick for you initially but pop up came back quickly whereas mine all be it O/L 2016, aside from no drop down options of course, running fine. All very wierd this one but hopefully a proper fix will loom in an update from MS soonest for all versions and those affected.

Might drop a note to our external environment server IT guys over the ditch in Aussie if time permits with work, to see if they've had any issues/queries with or from our work network group. Perhaps many are running 365.......but some I'm sure must have purpetual Outlook versions as their email client.

    Again thanks muchly,

    Cheers - Terry

    Hi Terry,

Pleased you saw the game and enjoyed it. I only saw the first half of the match, and it was great.

Have a crack at the work-around posted by Drcard:)) if you want, it worked for me.

    Pete
