New outlook - order of email accounts

Reading your post I decided to use the delete and re-add method that I dreaded doing because I wasn't sure how troublesome this will be - it was also smooth luckily and loaded fast. Until now I wasn't THAT annoyed with the order to risk full startup again. XD
As for who reads 12 pages - I read the first one, and then tried checking the last two-three ones for any solution or workaround, as I didn't know if re-adding will be painful or not... Lucky to read someone did it and reported how easy it was :)

PS. Sad that we have to use a workaround, which can be annoying and time consuming if you have many accounts and need a new important one on top...and have to reorder one by one... I wonder why it's not there in 2025?

I have found a solution for the reordering of mailboxes on the newest version of Outlook on my Windows 11 desktop. The version I'm on is 1.2025.129.300

Assuming you open Outlook to the Home tab in the Mail application, here is what you can click:

• View (in taskbar) > View Settings (option below taskbar) > Accounts (top option on far left column of pop-up)

This will bring you to a list of all your connected mailboxes. Here's what I did and what worked for me for reordering:

• Select Manage > Remove for all connected mail accounts (Don't worry, none of your emails or preference settings will be deleted)
  - After removing all mailboxes, you will be taken to the login screen for Outlook. The regular mail interface will not be shown.
• Add whatever mail account you want ordered first. Make sure not to select "Make this my default email." That will change the email your Windows account is linked with (I got the default email prompt when first doing this process, I did not see it again when I replicated it to make this comment).
• After adding the first mail account, select Add account in the mailbox column. This is how you will add all your other mailboxes. The option should be below the first email you just added. You can also follow the same path above to reopen the Accounts tab.
• For me, Outlook saved all of my previous mailboxes in a drop-down menu labeled Suggested accounts. From there, you can simply select what email you want ordered next. Repeat this process for all your mailboxes, remembering to add in order of how you want them sorted.

So, I have looked into this, and the folks at Microsoft are misleading everyone when it comes to New Outlook (aka Mail).

The IMAP function has been removed, so you won't be able to use anything other than 365 or Outlook (personal accounts) on there.

Mail has been discontinued, and you can no longer roll it back, no matter how hard you try. Unless someone knows where to get an old version that can be downloaded as a standalone app, there’s no way to revert. If you try and it doesn’t work, you’ll lose any current IMAP accounts that sit outside of Microsoft—so be warned.

Microsoft wants everyone’s data, so for some users, you can get a code to allow Microsoft Cloud to act as an interface between you and your non-MS accounts.

So your email will go:
Client (desktop app) → Microsoft Cloud → Your email provider.

Even basic functionality like rules, which normally sit on the client (desktop app), will no longer work on none Microsoft accounts.

Microsoft has made New Outlook unusable to force you to either pay for the full version as a perpetual license for one PC/laptop or get a monthly subscription.

To answer your question:

If your emails were set up as IMAP accounts, with luck, you should be able to get them back, depending on your email provider, by accessing the web version... I lost a bunch, but I use a cheap email provider.

If you set them up as POP3, they are gone. They are in there somewhere but you can't access them. Hopefully some clever tech can figure it out.

As far as I can tell Microsoft accounts are not affected, so if you were using anything from MS you should be fine.

If there is a Mod on here from Microsoft I would be happy to be corrected.
