Many unsolicited Microsoft verification codes.

I'm getting a few codes minute for the last hour or so.  I've checked to see if someone was accessing my account and there was no evidence of it.  I'm receiving texts from a handful of numbers and i don't want to block them in since i do need to get verification code from time to time, and the number i get the code from varies.

    I have reviewed and acted on all the advice on the Microsoft site but nothing has explained or helped stop these unsolicited verification codes.

    Does anyone understand this and have an answer to the problem ?

    My original post 04/09/20:

    I am also receiving multiple unsolicited Microsoft verification codes via text message on my phone, I have received 6 in the last 2 hours

    and an additional 8 on the two previous days Wednesday 02/09/20 & Thursday 03/09/20.

    The message is a 6 digit code, which changes each time I receive a new message followed by the "Use this code for Microsoft verification"

    No clue as to what it is for or where to use the code.

    In addition I have also received 3 automatic recorded phone messages of a similar nature from telephone number +1 (855) 330-8653.

    I have been through and completed all the Microsoft security checks, changed my password and reviewed the activity log on the Microsoft site, which confirmed that the only successful login was my own.

    Can anyone please tell me what these messages are for, what do I need to do and how do I stop these messages ?

    We have 2FA set up and have been receiving unexpected messages prefaced by "Microsoft account single-use code: abcdefg" (where a-g are the 7 digit code) for the past few days.

    When we log in successfully we get messages from Microsoft that are different.  They read "Use abcdefg as Microsoft security code"

    What is the difference?  What is interesting is that both are texted to the phone used as the 2FA device from the same number(s).  They seem to change every couple of days.

    Wondering if anyone can verify what the real 2FA message text characters should be.  Based on our experience it is only the first one listed above.  When we check the account activity we don't see any evidence of failed logins from elsewhere.  We changed our password yesterday to be extra careful, and that was successful.  But - is it possible that our password was compromised immediately or shortly after changing it, and the only thing that's keeping the attackers at bay is the 2nd authentication factor?
