Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

When I try to add a new Office 365 email to my outlook I get the error below.   I think it's because of my "Work or school account" which I want to remove. I'm not sure how my email was signed up for this second account. I set up this computer for home use only, I won't be using any of the Microsoft Azure features. 

My question is, what will happen when I remove my “work account” and leave my Microsoft account?  Everything is backed up on Onedrive, I just don’t know what to expect because when I went to remove it, it warned me about losing data and settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    hi I have to have the same problem with the error code when I logging in to Microsoft 365 through the school account  and i sent the screenshot below please reply to me as soon as possible because its urgent the

    I have a similar issue.  I had a forced update on Friday the 28th.  Now I cannot send email from either Outlook or any programs that typically work.  I have to add my password to receive emails multiple times a day.

    We use a type of Folder Redirect that does a type of roaming profile and we also get this message. In AD there is a place to redirect the user profile and if we remove that entry the error doesn't pop up; but when we have that entry in the AD to redirect the user profile we get this error and everyone we have setup with a folder redirected roaming profile gets it. When I remove the entry the users no longer get the error. From what I see it's something that isn't liking how the user profile is being redirected back to a server share.

    Hi Lou

    Thanks for the suggestion.  That does not seem to fix my problem.  I have actually tried this without any success.  I have even gone further by completely repartitioning my OS drive, reformatting, then reinstalling Win10 from scratch (6 times), each time hoping I could find the magic and fix this issue.  The first two times I didn't even have a TPM module and so I contacted my hardware manufacturer and purchased one and installed it.  Windows reports that it is working - until I try to use Outlook.  I do constantly get password messages for other stuff as well, but they never report this error.

    I do have other computers that seem to be working okay.  the difference is that they upgraded from 1903 to 2004 using the windows update tool this week, where the computer with the issue installed 2004 fresh as it has a new SSD.

    I am happy to receive any other ideas from anyone else on this issue.  I have never run into a computer problem so perplexing and with no means of support.

    My next test will be to do a fresh install of build 1903 that I got from my computer manufacturer, then let it upgrade to 2004 via the update tool and see if that fixes my problem.
