Outlook Android app cannot login IMAP email server.

This suddenly started yesterday 3/4/2020.

I have 3 email accounts on my android Outlook app. Outlook.com, Google, my ISP's. The problem only happens with my ISP (comcast.net, IMAP).

Till yesterday night, I can send/retrieve emails from the same server without an issue with Outlook app.

First I noticed Outlook requested to re-enter email password. But it failed. So I deleted account, then added. Failed. I even removed Outlook app and re-installed it. Failed. Google and Outlook account are just fine.

I didn't change anything from my side. I can access Comcast email from Web/Windows 10 mail and even from the same phone using Samsung standard email app.

What was changed and how to solve it? I can use Samsung standard email app but I like Outlook.

It seems that the bug in Outlook for Android imap accounts has been fixed with the latest update. I've successfully added my imap mweb.co.za account. It sends and receives messages. Version 4.2146.2. The issue started in October 2020

We (hubbie and I) are experienced at being retired. During professional working years MS Office was go to app for me and it was natural to continue that with 365 after retirement. Thx for your input. I too had that 'hacked' feeling which is NOT fun. (Listening MS? No not Multiple Sclerosis, MicroSoft... don't ask me the difference!!! LOL!)

Hubbie finally resolved issue for us by uninstalling, restarting Samsung, re-installing which included adding all our email addresses...ugh, I am grateful that he did that. It took 3 attempts, so be patient and have all that secret stuff in front of you!

So one and all, the work around is to un-install, restart, re-install, re-add main accounts and jump up and down 7 times, turn around 11 times and face the rising sun! Hoping that all goes well!!!

(Well, I may have gone too far with that, but it sure seems that way. So Much for AI....whose IQ is in single digits! LOL!)

    Good luck all!!!

The problem now is SMTP, it seems to be that only Outlook for Android tries to connect via SSL/TLS instead of StartTLS for port 587.

Port 465 SSL/TLS & IMAP server seems to be working.

The other difference that i sometimes see is that the autodiscover file is forcing TLS instead of negotiating to setup a TLS connection.

It would be very appreciated if encryption options would be added so that users can manage this manually, on the other hand, the problem is only with Outlook for Android and does not effect iOS or Desktop.

Not that they acknowledged. I 'reminded' them that the account was there, but no response yet.

    In case this helps ,

I have OfA Support an IMAP account to work with.  They report that, using version 4.2045. 2, it worked. I tried setting it up again on my device. I still get Login Error. They suggested that I login anyway, rather than "cancel". I did and get a perpetual Downloading Your Message .   Same problem I have with my own IMAP account. Their response is,

"we have checked the account and the test confirms that this is an account issue, it can be with the login info or the server settings.

We can't do anything about that.

Please let me know if you have any other questions."

Then, I pointed out that they were able to add the account.  I asked what settings they used and what version of OfA. The reply was,

" I have the same version as you.

Once I get the error message about the certificate, I tap on "Login" and it works.

I confirm again that your account can't work correctly as the test that we have made is failed.

We can't do anything about that, you can check that with your provider.

Please let me know if you have any other questions."

I have now requested screenshots of the settings they used .   No answer yet. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
