Outlook 2016 "open in new window" doesn't remember size

Hi Everyone,

since yesterday my Outlook 2016 via Office 365 (64bit Version 1808 Build 10730.20102) does not remember the size of a new window opened -> e.g. Calendar or Tasks.

Everytime I resize it, close it and reopen it, it will open in a smaller Window on the wrong postion.

I have rebooted, started in Outlook in safe mode, disabled all Add-Ins and also reinstalled Office ... nothing helped.

This is really annoying and I need a fix for this.

Example:

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For home

This is annoying as heck.  Luckily, the fix is simple.  You have to set the size you want in what I will call the "prime" window.  Do this:

    1.  Close out of Office completely.

    2.  Open back up.  Hit tab to shrink from full screen.

    3.  Change the size of that window to the size you want.

    4.  Close out of Office again by Ctrl-clicking the X

All new non-full-size windows should now open in the correct size.

Thanks, somebody has to do it ...

Yeah appeared over night as well. Still MS thinks this was never supposed to work the way we were used to it.

This feels like everyone working on Windows and Office was let go and a new team is running the show not having a clue what was supposed to work and what not

This makes MS look like some backyard software company run by students ... just lacking the agility.

Anyway let's hope someone feels encouraged to change this ....

My window opens even smaller than yours and the usual tricks to force a size aren't working here. I'll let the product team know. Thanks.

Any news on this ? Should be an easy fix. It worked before. Not sure what combination of Windows and Office Updates killed this basic function that worked all the time I have worked with Windows and Office in the last 20+ years ...

    HI Jennifer,

I can confirm it has not been behaving always this way. It worked fine all the time.

Can you check with an older Windows 10 version ? It might be an update to Windows 10 that caused this.

I am not accepting this as a normal behavior, because the normal behavior was to keep the windows size and position memeorized.

Please escalate this and do another tests with a Window 10 version from August 2018 or earlier.

I will submit the User Voice feedback again.

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Jennifer,

thanks for giving me more details.

Are there any documents for Windows mentioning that Windows should keep their size and position ?

Because this is a basic feature that has worked ever since! It is expected to work like this.

It won't help anyone if there is an option that Outlook should remember the size as everyone exepcts this a default behavior.

NOONE wants the windows to pop up in random sizes and random positions ... NOONE !

I have no computer anymore that does not show that issue.

All three of my PCs show the same behavior now. They did not do that last week.

Microsoft caused this by contantly updating the OS and Office in the background, so the user has no control anymore on what version to run.

Anyway, I don't expect this to be some feature request for some version in an unforseeable future.

I want this to be fixed and worked on. So please do everything in your power to escalate this issue.

This is a BUG, not a FEATURE (pun intended) ...

I get your intention on marking this as an answer, but there is no workaround, so there is nothing that helps other users apart from Microsoft getting it fixed.

    Thanks

    Andy
