Exchange ActiveSync won't sync contacts on Android

Hi,

I've been having a problem with Exchange ActiveSync on my Android phone. Calendar and E-mails sync fine without any problems. However, my contacts won't sync properly. My contacts sync the first time I set up my account on my phone using Exchange ActiveSync but afterwards if I make any changes or add new contacts on my phone then it won't sync to Outlook.com. The same situation arises if I modify or create a new contact on the web at Outlook.com; I don't see these changes being synced to my phone. 2-way syncing is not working for my contacts.

I have removed and re-added my Outlook account on my phone multiple times but the problem persists. I am using a Nexus 4, running the latest version of Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1

Can you please fix this?? It is extremely annoying and inconvenient. I don't want to use the Hotmail or Outlook apps since they are very limited in functionality and a big battery drain on the phone.

Thanks.

My contacts have started to sync again and I think I have narrowed it down to Contact Binding.

My Android phone (THL W200) has dual SIMs and you can bind contacts to a specific SIM to use as a preference when calling or SMSing.

It seems as soon as I try to bind a contact (single or all), all contact syncing stops and does not return until I delete and add the EAS account again.

Since I have stopped using the binding feature, I have had no problems with adding, modifying or deleting contact entries with 2 way sync between outlook.com and the EAS account setup on my Android.

I can only assume that there is a field that the phone modifies which outlook.com does not understand and hence fails.

Although your problems may not be exactly the same, it would be worth seeing if there are any other fields (photos, specific ringtones, etc) which are altered on the phone and subsequently breaks the syn as outlook.com does not know how to handle this extra information.

This thread has been going for well over a year, the only possible solved cases are ones where Microsoft says "we made adjustments to your account, try again", but most of those seem to fail as well.  I see no responses from Microsoft since last October.  It seems to be a frequent problem that EAS stops syncing, and sometimes refuses to sync at all after removing and re-adding your account, but MS simply starts the frontline script over on each incident and never finds a solution.

I recently began having this same problem, but I cannot wait months or years in hopes of a solution.  Has anyone suffering here found a way to fix this problem, even temporarily, or does anyone have any idea what MS is doing when they say "we made an adjustment"?  It is very painful having no contacts in my phone, dealing only with phone numbers, and not being able to look people up.

On my side I checked all my contacts on outlook.com (people.live.com) and noticed that some had strange html tags and/or garbled/scrambled text in some text fields like 'notes'. I cleaned all contacts and not it has been syncing fine since 10 days.

I sill have bug with email address formatting when creating the email address in Android though. When synced, it appears like that in outlook.com or MS Outlook:

***email address is removed for privacy***

The " " and <> signs are not compatible with Outlook and sending emails with that format fils (I have to manually remove the signs and keep only the email address.

Hi, I have this issue also where I am using the native email client on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.2.2 phone where not all of my contacts will sync. I am missing some keys contact on my phone which are there when I check via Outlook or the Outlook.com web client.

I have tried removing and reinstalling the account. I would use the Outlook.com app but it does not allow me to add and manage contacts in the same way that the native email client does.

Could someone from support please look into this issue please?

    Regards

    Raj

I am checking sync between my Android 4.2 phone and outlook.com using MS Activesync after having UNLINKED my skype and outlook.com accounts.

It seems to work now but I need more testing/switching phone off/on and creating & deleting contacts on both phone and outlook.com (people.live.com) website.

If confirmed it would indicate that the linking of outlook.com and skype (possibly also facebook, twitter) accounts breaks the Activesync.
