I seem to have a Virus in my email that is sending me spam emails from my own email address.

I use a chrome book so it doesn't have anti virus to sweep with.

I can't block the emails as they are from myself and hotmail says i am in my own contacts.  I have changed my email password and there are no forwarding addresses but it is still happening.

What should I do?

    >  I get 6-10 junk emails a day

Do those messages arrive in your Inbox or your Junk folder? If the latter, that's where junk is supposed to go. It's a sign that the junk filter is working as designed.

Running a malware removal tool is unnecessary because your PC and your account isn't sending the messages. Receiving mail from yourself is not due to a virus.

I have this problem as well and none of the suggestions to resolve the problem has worked. Possibly because I do not use the standard mail box system. I use eM Client. Consequently I get 6-10 junk emails a day still.

I have received a spam email from my own email address, there is no copy of it in my "sent messages" so, I am also concerned about Spoof emails.

As I just found this page and read a few posts, I tried following some of the advice but the link provided to the microsoft malware removal tool was a dead link.

I clicked a few other links given to lead us through the password change and then checking for alternate email addresses but I must be too stupid because I couldn't get the relevant stuff at all.

    thanks for any help.

When you log into http://www.outlook.com/, do you see "Outlook.com" or "Outlook Mail" (or "Outlook Email") at the left end of the menu bar?

If you see "Outlook.com", click the Options gear, then "Manage rules". Click New. The default condition will be "Sender contains". Put your own address to the text box top the right of the condition. Click the plus sign beneath the "Sender contains" condition. The default new condition will be "Recipient contains". Enter your address in the text box to the right of that. The default action will be "Delete". Click "Create rule".

If you see "Outlook Mail" (or "Outlook Email"), click the Options gear. In the left had column of options, click "Inbox and sweep rules". Click the plus sign in the "Inbox rules" section. Give the rule a name. In the "When the message arrives..." section, click the "Select one" condition drop-down and choose "It was sent or received", then "Received from". Enter your own address. Click OK. Click "Add condition", then "Sent or received from", then "Sent to". Add your own address. Click OK. In the "Do all of the following" drop-down, choose "Move, copy, or delete", then "Delete the message". Finally, click OK at the top.

Remember, though, that these are Inbox rules. They won't operate on any message delivered to the Junk (for Outlook.com) or Junk E-mail (for Outlook Mail) folder.
