How do I permanently disable MSN chat in Outlook?

I never wanted to be able to use the MSN chat while checking my emails. I was able to disable it via hotmail but now this option is gone. The only thing it lets me do is turn invisible. It doesn't let me log out of the chat without that also logging me out of my inbox. Please fix this or let me know how I turn the chat feature off without resorting to an ad blocker. Thanks!

We apologize for the delayed response to your concern as we are now having a high volume of support request from customers. We appreciate your effort in sharing your thoughts to our feedback page.

Rest assured that Microsoft is reviewing what customer's have posted there to consider the features that should be added in the new Outlook interface for product development. Currently, we don't have an option to turn off automatic log in to Messenger, you can just turn your profile as "Invisible" while checking your emails.

Your patience to this matter is very much appreciated.

    I dont think its a hack, just crap. Regarding this issue I found it even more annoying now. Whenever my screensaver starts and I come back, it switches back from invisible to available. Cursing will get me nowhere here since mods will delete, but I mean WTF... How can I explain how crap this is without cursing?

    Its so crap, that I come back here just to let you know, even though I'm rarely active in forums. I came here and registered despite this, just to let you know how bad I think it is. 

    I have more issues with outlook/hotmail.

    It never remembers my adress for starters, regardless browser and settings, it keeps forgetting my credentials making it extremely non user friendly. I mean why, its 2017. When googling this I found a thread as old as this, full of disappointed users.

    Microsoft is really really CRAP and nothing else. I've kept it as a CRAP mail too, for site registrations etc... Used to be fine, but not even good for this anymore. 

    Hope y'all get this fixed. If not, I hope you lose all your customers paying you that bill gates money..

    I have this same issue. In one of my Hotmail email accounts, the "invisible" setting stays put, keeping people from trying to chat. In my other Hotmail account, I can't get the "invisible" setting to stay! Every frigging time I login to my account, someone is trying chat and I have to "ignore" and go turn on the "invisible" setting. It's driving me nuts! Why on earth can't Microsoft get this issue resolved? This only started about 2-3 weeks ago--prior to that, I never had a problem with my "invisible" setting automatically turning itself off. Could this be a hack on the part of an unwanted individual to contact me? Microsoft needs to address this matter and delve into the "why" of how this has happened in addition to fixing the issue.

    Omg, still not resolved? Just created an account here to let everyone know I am now giving up on hotmail after more than 20 years. When gmail came I thought i had no reason to change, but got one to have a "serious" mail with my full name as adress.

    Agree with everyone here, ridiculous that I can not choose if I want to be signed in and see my old msn contacs from when I was 13..., Everytime i use my crap mail. It puts me in socially akward situations which I have no saying in, just a matter of luck, as always with microsoft....

    Get it sorted out, people are depending on you and will leave you because of all worthy competition today.

    Even this field where I am typing is bugging a lot... Technology is moving forward, so should you...

    The best workaround I found is to use an other email service than outlook web. Strangely Microsoft provide to services for that : Outlook in the Office suite and Mail in Windows 10. I tried but I am sure there are many others including some on the web like GMAIL, Yahoo,...
