Outlook.com sent items show sender not recipient - how can I change the display setting

When viewing sent items on outlook.com the items are displayed in a list with the sender name (my name) showing - rather than a list of the recipients. How can I change it to show the recipients. Currently to remember who an email was sent to I have to open it.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Lanie, a Senior Support Analyst for Microsoft and I am part of Hotmail/Outlook.com Support Escalations Team investigating this case.

We would like to apologize for the delayed response and for the inconvenience that the issue has caused you.

You have reported that your name appears in the recipient’s column instead of the email recipient’s name/address when viewing your sent items using a web browser.

Here are the reasons why this is happening:

  1. If you are using an email client such as Windows Live Mail or Outlook client when sending an email.
  2. If you are importing emails from a third party email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo! mail etc.) to your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using TrueSwitch or POP settings, emails from the sent items folder will show your name in recipient’s column.

We understand that you don't want this behavior and you want everything to be synchronized like showing email recipients name in the sent items folder instead of your names when using a web browser. This behavior of Hotmail/Outlook.com is by design. But, we will be taking this concern as a feature request. We appreciate your feedback regarding our product.

    I have the same problem and would very much like to see this resolved by Microsoft. Please take responsibility for it and get it fixed. Outlook.com is a good system, but after importing all my sent emails from Outlook 2003 via the Hotmail connector, all my sent emails show me (the sender) in the "to" column, which is meaningless. It should show the recipient, as the "To" heading indicates. Thank you.

    Hi Jay Verm,

    (Sorry for any weird words but my native language is not English)

    I didn't notice that this topic had 6 pages... as you can see I was replying to Judith_C. post on September 28, 2012, which is at the bottom of the first page of this topic.

    After reading these 6 pages, I can see that my dream is becoming a disappointment after disappointment:

    Dream: A complete integration between Outlook, a web mail service and a mobile phone… very important for those working on the go.

    Disappointments:

    • I can back up the text messages (SMS) on my Lumia to Skydrive but I CAN NOT see them or use them in Outlook or in outlook.com.  Good for backup purposes but completely useless when you need to use those text message as a tool for your work.

    I’ve been doing this with SyncLion on my old Symbian phone and it couldn’t be easier. All text messages get uploaded to Gmail via IMAP and then I can use them in Outlook 2010 or Gmail like any other email.

    • I can bring all my previous email messages from Gmail to outlook.com but in the Sent folder I cannot see who the recipient of each message is… I just can’t work like this!
    • I can use my Outlook 2010 via Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector, but then I have the same problem when I go to the Sent folder in outlook.com, i.e. cannot see/sort by recipient.

    Ok, let’s leave Outlook 2010 and start using outlook.com till this problem with Outlook Hotmail Connector gets resolved. Well, you may find yourself in another problem!!!

    Suppose that you want to forward some information from one of your suppliers to one of your customers but you don’t want to tell to your customer who is your supplier.

    1. Go to your outlook.com and find an email with a logo from the sender (in my case, an email from a supplier with his signature and logo at the bottom of his email).
    2. Open the email and click Forward (Reply > Forward).
    3. Type your message and delete what you don’t want to forward from the original message, like the name and logo of your supplier.
    4. Now, send the message to another email address and see what you have sent…

    Well, if you are having the same problem as me, the email that you sent is now showing the logo that you deleted during step 3. (see the files attached to the email that you sent).

    So, I’m telling to my customers who are my suppliers… thank you so much outlook.com!!!

    This topic started 9 months ago and so far what do we know?

     “We are going to follow up with the Hotmail folks internally and ensure they're aware of how this issue explicitly affects those that are importing mail from other web clients.”

    Does it sound like urgent?
