"Silent" Notification Doesn't Work On Outlook.com Android App

Downloaded and configured the Outlook.com app for my HTC One and it will play any audible notification that I select except for "Silent".

settings > General > Notifications > Email Notifications > Audio Notification

If I do select "Silent", it still plays an audible tone - a tone unique to the application. It doesn't sound like any other selectable tone.

Even if I uncheck notifications, the tone still plays.

I really like the application, but I can't use it if it refuses to be silent on each new email :)

Hi LMFPeach and FlipmodeMF,

Thank you for getting back to us. Since the option to turn the sounds off on Outlook.com app does not work, then there is a possibility that the Outlook.com app itself is causing this issue. It might be that the Outlook.com app is faulty.

Now, we recommend that you uninstall the Outlook.com app and download the latest version of it from the Play store. Once done, we recommend that you turn the email notification sound off by following the steps below:

1.       Open the Outlook.com app on your mobile device.

2.       Tap on the Menu option.

3.       Tap on Settings.

4.       Choose General.

5.       Choose notifications.

6.       Click on email notifications and then make sure that the box is unchecked.

7.       Tap on Audio Notification.

8.       When you get into your notification, choose the "silent" button.

Let us know how things turn out. Feel free to post back if you have further questions.

Regards,

Johayber T.

Everyone, I think I know the answer. To confess, my wife figured it out......

In the settings in the Outlook app, there are actually 2 (yes two) places that sort of do the same thing.

In the Outlook app, go to settings as you have been. There are settings for General Preferences for the notifications and ring tone, and there are ALSO SETTINGS UNDER THE ADDED ACCOUNT.  Just click the added account and change the settings there. The account settings override general preference settings apparently. Given that you have to have an account to do this, I am not sure why the General Settings are there that include settings that must be there for the account. Very confusing.

    Hope this helps..

    Audrey,

Thank you for your help. This is the issue that is on this thread voiced by many other users. It has to be a defect of some kind requiring a fix in the Outlook email app. My phone specs are below.

If I go to Outlook Mail, Menu, Settings, General Preferences, I can set it either of these ways and I still get the delivered mail sound:

Method 1: Email Notification checkbox (off)

Method 2: Email Notifications checkbox (on)

                      Ringtone chosen "Silent"

As others have mentioned, nothing I do with changing the Email Notifications/Ringtone settings in Outlook seems to help.  I have no priority senders IDed.
