Signatures no longer working

Since the last update, my signatures are no longer functioning. When I select signatures in a new email window, it does not list any - it is simply blank, the divider bar, and then the menu option to open the Signature editing panel:

Then, once in the Signature editing panel, only my signatures for my exchange-based email account appear. Otherwise, all of my email accounts appear when I click the drop-down menu to select a different (IMAP/Gmail) account, but when I select any of the non-exchange email accounts, it shows "Accounts are not available.":

If I then click on the drop-down again, it opens a pop-up window stating "This option is available only when Microsoft Outlook is running. Do you want to start Outlook?"

Regardless of if I select either Yes or No, nothing happens.

Clearly, Outlook is already running, I am using Outlook to test this stuff. My signatures are there in the appdata folder as well, so it is not an issue of missing signatures either.

The steps I have attempted to resolve:

  • delete and remake signatures
  • run Outlook in safe mode
  • fully uninstall and reinstall office
  • delete all accounts, fully uninstalling and reinstalling office, and then adding the accounts again

This issue only started occurring earlier this week. So, is this just a beta issue, or is my office/outlook just completely broken?

    Hi Gabriel,

    Many thanks for your swift response. Yes, I did see before I applied the reg key that the signatures did appear under the "Signatures on this device" e-mail account. However, I did notice that, even though the signature only appears once in my %AppData%\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures folder, it may appear about 30 times under "Signatures on this device" (see next para).

    However, I use about 30 different e-mail addresses across different domains and I certainly do not want to recreate my e-mail account signatures for individual e-mail accounts. I.e. I might use multiple signatures across multiple accounts.

    I do not want to have to duplicate those signatures for each account, which is what I believe would need to be done. Not only that but each instance of the signature would have to have its own unique name. This would end up with me having about 200 signatures. And I certainly don't want to waste a few days doing that, especially as any edit to one would require the same edit to its equivalents I use for other accounts.

    The existing functionality was perfect for me, and was easily maintained when I do change a signature (as it would then apply across multiple accounts automatically. I haven't looked but I can't see any real need to pigeon hole separate signatures in each account.

    It sounds like I'm going to have to keep this registry key for a while. Is there anyway that you could add a config option so that users can select which type of functionality they want?

    @HighlanderRD,

    Test removing the policy/reg key, and see if your signatures got moved. Per the guidance on the Cloud Signatures migration the signatures could be in the Email Account "Signatures on this device", Outlook roaming signatures - Microsoft Support. If you find them here then you can copy them and recreate for your email accounts signatures and it should be the final step to be past this migration. See the section in the article I linked above for "Signature migration".

    If you do not see the signatures per the article, please open an In App ticket. So far, we have not had any tickets with new issues since the fixes that went out in Version 2210. If there are issues though I want to get that investigated quickly.

    Hi all,

    Mine updated to 'Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2210 Build 16.0.15726.20188) 32-bit' this morning and my signatures disappeared as explained in this thread. So it looks like version 2210 does not fix it. In fact, even though I have auto-updates turned on, it only happened this morning.

    I have tried all sorts before finding this thread - repairing profile, repairing Office (quick & full), restoring my PST file etc.. This has seriously pissed me off today, wasting over 6 hours.

    The Roaming Signatures Feature reg fix has been applied and back to normal again.

    Hi all,

    The Outlook Team implemented fixes for the issues you were seeing with Cloud Signatures starting in build 16.0.15726.20164 or higher. This build is now available in Current Channel Preview and will go to Current Channel soon. If any of you are on CC Preview and can test signatures, please do. Otherwise, everyone else will see the fixes in Current Channel soon. If you see any problems please report them via Help, Contact Support in Outlook. Please also update this thread so we can also monitor here for any issues.

    I did the registry hack a few days before @Gabriel Bratton's post, and it worked.

    After seeing his post, I removed the hack - and we're back to Signatures No Longer Working.
