GIFs do not load on the new version of Teams. How can I fix that?

When someone in the new Teams chat posts a GIF or a meme they are not loading. It may be a trivial thing but I feel like I can't fully comprehend what people are expressing in Teams because I can't see these things. What do I need to do to fix it?

***If the option to use a GIF isn't showing in the chat window, nor is there a "+" sign... this might help. It worked for me!

    Open Teams

    >Click the 3 DOTS (on the top right, next to your account icon)

    >Click SETTINGS

    >Click PRIVACY

    >Toggle OPTIONAL CONNECTED EXPERIENCES to "on" mode.

Go back to your chat window and the GIFs option should show now.

    Yes! It's this :)

We paste a GIF in the chat. Then a PLAY button appears in the middle of the GIF when we hover over it. If we play, the gif starts playing with a big PAUSE button in the middle, which isn't desirable of course and then after 5 or so frames, the GIF stops and it stays in play mode with the possibility to pause. Why doesn't the GIF play all the way ?

You have Microsoft Teams version 24295.605.3225.8804.

You've got the latest version. It was last checked on 2024-12-04.

Believe me we tried a lot of basic things like RESTARTING Teams, LOGGED OUT, CLEAR CACHE, and so on !

Users within our organization started to report the same issue today as well. It is odd as multiple users have the same version of Microsoft Teams, with each user seeing a different version of the GIF + Emoji + Stickers chat features.

    Old Version:

    New Version (Working):

New Version (Missing GIFS + Stickers):

For us it is still like in image 3.

We have Giphy activated in the Admin Center.

And the Optional content is enabled too.

But still no Gifs or sticker available.

Report back from the engineer on our open case is that there are "multiple bug investigations on this issue." and that "Currently it appears that it should be resolved with a pending update that should apply by the end of the month."

I have responded to the engineer with the suggestion that Microsoft provide a more comprehensive advisory or degradation of service notification on the Microsoft 365 Health Status feed so that customers can acknowledge that Microsoft is aware of the issue.

I also have requested a more solid date for the release of the update.

We'll see what they respond back with.

Thank you for providing that feedback that your organization received. We would be very interested to hear if Microsoft provides any additional information to your team, and we will also be on the lookout for a service degradation in the M365 Admin Center.

It does look like GIFs still work for the impacted users in Classic Teams. If that is still a feature available in your organization, you may be able to have users toggle back to that version (While it still exists.) That may help to stem the end-user outcry of 20 days with no GIFs 😂
