The latest version of NEW TEAMS, lets you change the notification sound. There's not a lot to choose from, but at least we're not stuck with the default now.

What's frustrating here is that Windows has had per application sounds since Windows 95, in the Sound control panel under Program Events. It's not new.
However, I've found that opening C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MSTeams_24074.2323.2827.4973_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Audio shows me all the Teams MP3 audio files. I'm sure if I were to replace teams_notification.mp3 with my own file named the same thing then it would work....probably until Teams updated and replaced the file. But it would be another workaround at least. YMMV on the folder location.
The only other issue is that you have to take control of the *\WindowsApps* folder which might require logging in as a local Administrator (not a Domain user), and might break things for the ever so stable UWP apps system <cough>
I'm not able to get this to work on my android Teams. When I follow directions to change it in teams, it changes it in my general settings, which misses the whole point because I want to differentiate the sounds.
Multi-Billion dollar Company (Microsoft) and your bean-counters can not make a few pleasant sounds for notifications. Jeez..is this 1983? No wonder Apple is dominating the PC field!
I have the same problem since some Teams App update, I start to hear default built-in Teams chat notification together with the Windows sound notification although I have set to use only Windows notification style. It is annoying also to my colleagues in office, because when laptop has locked screen and I am not at the computer Windows notifications do not play sound (which is correct), but Teams built in notification sound is still played every time I got chat from someone (and I am in a big company so that is quite often).
When it started to annoy me I tried to revert Teams to previous version (located in folder C:\Users[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\previous), but the issue was not resolved, probably before I attempted to fix it, the Teams was already updated twice, so I no longer have the previous version where notifications were working properly (that is to use Windows style with only sound set in Windows sound setting).
