The latest version of NEW TEAMS, lets you change the notification sound. There's not a lot to choose from, but at least we're not stuck with the default now.
Multi-Billion dollar Company (Microsoft) and your bean-counters can not make a few pleasant sounds for notifications. Jeez..is this 1983? No wonder Apple is dominating the PC field!

macOS and iOS user. I'm at a loss for words. The notifications could AT LEAST respect my selected Alert sound instead of the grating Tri-Tone default.

So I agree that this should be a feature, but just want to mention a side note regarding your assertion that 99% of corproate devs use MacOS. This is just demonstrably untrue. There are lots of sources for an OS breakdown, but the annual StackOverflow developer survey is probably the most comprehensive of professional developers.
Here's the breakdown of developers' primary professional use OSes from last year's survey:
Windows: 48.82%
Linux: 39.89%
MacOS: 32.97%
BSD: 1.03%
I recognize you said "corporate use" instead of professional use—but to be as generous as possible to MacOS and to use one of the lesser-biased data sets possible, I chose to use these measuring "professional use", because surveys of corporations tend to favor Windows significantly more.
Personally, I'm grateful to be able to do much of my dev work in Linux (coding .NET, no less!), though I don't mind using any of the 3 choices. Just had to point out the bad data.
It's 2023, technology should work, but people are too focused on profits versus the pride of doing a good job.
Think yourselves lucky, despite the slider in "Notifications" being set to play sounds, I don't get any call notification and constantly miss calls, other sounds work though, like receiving an email, so it is not a system issue, it is an MS bug.
Is it any wonder large numbers of users abandonded Windows for Mac OS, due to constantly having to deal with this type of rubbish in the Windows environment! It's a shame I still have to endure Office 365 in a work context - MS didn't think Mac users were important enough to give full Office functionality, but it is what it is - I certainly won't be going back to Windows any time soon, buying a Mac was the best decision ever and I wish I'd done it sooner!
