Can't open files from Teams in Office desktop app

I've been using MS Teams to work with PowerPoint and Excel documents with the option Open in desktop app. Until a few weeks ago  when I try to open a document with the option open desktop app I get the launching window of the app (any office app like Excel, Powr Point, Word, etc.) but it doesn't start anything. This is with all the files I try. I haven't made changes to my settings or anything. I have tried to clear the cache in the Teams Folder and I have checked that the apps are linked to the right file types but nothing works. I also have looked on the official site for help and in this community but I can't find any fixes that solve this.

    For me, the Open in Desktop App option was moved to the center of the toolbar. It’s left of the “Tell me what you want to do.” It was not there when I first reported the problem, but it is there now.

    Hi Marvin, sorry for the delay in my response.

    I downloaded the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant but it doesn't seem to repair a thing, I mean, it says that is scanning but it takes +2 hrs. and shows no changes at all. I have also tried re installing MS Office and it has gone well but it doesn't solve my problem.

    I'm currently downloading my filles locally, work on them and then uploading them to teams, I have no issues with this but it is very complicated as my work consists in modify slides in massive presentations with my team.

    I just had the same issue for a user, and, interestingly, this issue is related to cached browser data (the URL protocol involved with the default MS-WORD app setting):

    It may affect one or more office programs (in my case, it affected Word, but not Excel).

    To test whether this is browser related:

    1. Switch your default browser to something different (ie, from Chrome to Edge).
    2. Fully exit Teams.
    3. Reopen MS Teams and confirm if you can open MS Office files in-app.
    4. If that resolved the problem, but you want to go back to your original default browser, just reset that browser to its defaults and delete any cached data (example: rename C:%username%\appdata\local\google to google.old).

    I ran the quick repair on Office ProPlus and it fixed the problem for me.
