I've been using MS Teams to work with PowerPoint and Excel documents with the option Open in desktop app. Until a few weeks ago when I try to open a document with the option open desktop app I get the launching window of the app (any office app like Excel, Powr Point, Word, etc.) but it doesn't start anything. This is with all the files I try. I haven't made changes to my settings or anything. I have tried to clear the cache in the Teams Folder and I have checked that the apps are linked to the right file types but nothing works. I also have looked on the official site for help and in this community but I can't find any fixes that solve this.

I am facing the same issue with power point.
I tried clearing the cache. It did not help. I am not able to see the option to open in desktop app from the web version of team either.

I have the same problem as DD_DXC above, except with PowerPoint. My default app by protocol for PowerPoint says "Choose Default" and when I click it, it directs me to the Microsoft Store. PowerPoint is installed but I cannot browse to it. I have a ticket open with 365 support for 3 days now.

When in the Teams desktop app or the web app, navigate to view files:
Then click the three lines next to the view option:
In the drop-down, click on "Edit current view". SharePoint Edit View will open in a browser window. You'll see of column names. Find "Type (icon linked to document)" and make sure "Display" is checked.
