Loud Beeping when Muted in a MS Teams Call

When using my Aftershokz OpenComm during a call, I hear a loud beeping noise when I mute myself during the call. This beeping only goes away when I unmute. I've contacted Aftershokz, and they've assured me this is due to a recent MS Teams update causing connectivity issues.

I've also read other non-Microsoft forums and realize this is apparently an issue since 2021 with MS Teams and multiple brands of headphones/headsets. However, it only recently started for me today, April 18, 2022.

Is Microsoft doing anything to solve this issue? Is there a solution to this?

It seems to be making many users upset and frustrated. I'm surprised Microsoft hasn't addressed this yet.

    Yes, I switched to use the free BT I got from AfterShokz. I used to use another BT dongle (TP-lLnk) but it has never worked correctly with Teams. May be it's the software driver issue.

    Anyway, I gave up on that and got the free dongle from Aftershokz.

    It has been working since then with Teams, Zoom, Skype, and all other conferencing apps.

    Does that mean you simply switched from onboard bluetooth to a bluetooth dongle?

    I'm using a BT5 dongle (as the onboard BT was too flaky for my Aftershokz) and it still beeps.

    I called Aftershokz support a month or so ago and they sent me a USB dongle for free (I hope it is still true today).

    My OpenComm connects to this dongle and I no longer have that issue. It also works with everyting else.

    The problem is that changing the system-level Mute status on the recording device is a temporary fix. The root cause of this issue is that when you hit the Mute button in teams, it's also muting the recording device in Windows. It's not just muted for Teams, it's muted for EVERYTHING, and that's what causes the Shokz headset to warn you that it's muted.

    You can temporarily unmute it at the system, and it stays muted in Teams. But next time you toggle the mute button in Teams, it mutes the system again and you're back to square 1. This is no fix.
