Yes. This is what we see. Clearing the cache updates all versions, but the Mobile and Browser versions update themselves without clearing the cache.

So far the survey shows that most users (about 70%) do not see this issue at all, though they are using the same versions as the ones who do see the issue.

All are on Windows 10.

All are using both Mobile and Desktop.

None are using the browser version.

    Hello Rohanvipul,

My name is Veejay, I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be glad to help you.

I suggest to clear your Teams desktop app cache:

    1. Quit Microsoft Teams. Right-click the icon and select Quit.
    2. Cut and paste %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams into File Explorer.
    3. Delete the contents of the entire folder.
    4. Restart Microsoft Teams.

If you're using Mac, try clearing the Teams app cache this way.

    1. Sign out of Microsoft Teams
    2. In the Finder on the Mac, choose Go > Go To Folder. Enter the path to the following folders and delete the files they contain:
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Application Cache/Cache
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/blob_storage
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/databases
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/GPUCache
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/IndexedDB
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Local Storage
      ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/tmp
    3. Restart Microsoft Teams

Please let me know if you have any questions or concern.
    Thank You

Any updates on this? We are experiencing the same thing for a number of users within the same team.

I've been working with my internal support but so far no answer.

After reading through lots of threads from the last 3 years, it looks as though this is either an old problem that recurs from time to time, or an old problem never actually solved.

I think the two best candidates for the culprit are:

    • Operating in a hybrid environment of Skype + Teams (we do this right now)
    • Something in the way the Desktop queries for updates is broken, so it sees the new activity in a Teams Channel and updates the notifications, but it does not pull the new content into the channel itself.

Sadly, Microsoft itself doesn't seem to have any solution.

    A few notes:

    • I have confirmed that the mobile and browser versions of Teams do not have this problem. I can have the Mobile, Browser, and Desktop versions open simultaneously. When any activity is detected in a Teams channel, the Mobile and Browser versions both update automatically and show the updates in the channel. The Desktop version will see the activity and show the notification, but steadfastly refuses to show the content in the Teams channel unless you force it to by uninstalling/reinstalling or by deleting the entire cache and restarting.
    • I have also confirmed that this is ONLY Teams channels - not in Chat.
    • Currently running an internal survey to get more insight on this issue.

I'm having to abandon using the Teams client on Mac. The chat function is completely broken. I am reverting to using Teams in a browser. This is a poor show from Microsoft given that the issue is clearly widespread and this ticket has been open for over a month now.
