Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

I had the same symptoms as OP under same circumstances. This did not occur in other apps to my recollection.

My (Jabra) headset has not had any update since the issue began but today during a teams meeting there were no beeps on mute. (Thanks!!).

AFAIK I have not done anything differently. Hoping you all have been relieved of the beeping as well.

Using Sennheiser 350 BT. Also getting beeps. Please fix this issue. I don't have time to log in online multiple times a day because Microsoft has created an issue that didn't exist previously.

Thanks for the suggestion Boris, I tried this and tested through it to see if it stops the beeping, which it does... but:

Disabling the gateway essentially removes the Aftershokz microphone from the device microphone selection, defaulting to the PC/laptops' microphone.

So it really doesn't fix the problem... it simply hard-tethers your microphone to the laptop hardware.

I am using shockz and Jabra, every 4 seconds there is beeping to remind me I am mute.

This only happened recently after a recent MS teams update
