Recent update to Teams causes beeping in headset when on mute

Been using Teams since the start of lockdown with a headset. As of today I am getting a double-beep at about five second intervals (like a hold beep) in the headset when I am muted. This has not happened before and been using same headset for months.

Also note that when I mute / unmute in Teams, the headset now announces "mute on" and "mute off" to me.

This feels like a Teams update has created this "feature" - please turn it off!

Dave, Danial - Count me in. I am absolutely disgusted with Microsoft for not fixing this glitch resulting from their software update. Darn software engineers talk endlessly about how great their products are and live the good life from charging crazy-high prices, justified by how great their products are: And then when their products don't work, "it's a compatibility issue with another device of yours"; and then when THAT'S proven false by MILLIONS of others reporting the SAME problem having started at the SAME time, you get their answer #2 : "You need to buy our newer product"! Disgusting! I work in a medium-sized professional firm; we all started coming back to work after the pandemic highpoint (fall 2021), despite the fact that we work in an open office, by buying headsets (Aftershokz Model AS660), After a handful of blissful months, I now have to reserve one of our meeting rooms and move my laptop their to join a meeting; originally so that I can join the meeting without muting my mic. without disturbing the meeting (the irony there is that, once in the private conf. room, I don't need the headphones that I paid $150 for! SHAME ON YOU, MicroSoft! If NOTHING else, you ought to offer the millions of us who suffer from this problem, an update that undoes whatever that previous update did that caused this problem. Or you ought to buy every single one of the affected headsets from those of us that shelled out $150 for product that, following MS's update, no longer does what ti was bought for!

    F$%king windows setting https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftTeams/comments/udh3dt/headphones_keep_beeping_every_5_seconds_while_on/

Here's the fix for Windows 10:

    1. Right click the volume button in the start menu and select "Sounds"
    2. Click on the Recording tab, and select your microphone. Click "Properties"
    3. Go to the "Levels" tab and you might see that your headset is muted by default for some reason. Unclick it.

Here's how to get there in Windows 11:

    1. Right click the volume button in the start menu and select "Sound settings"
    2. Scroll all the way down and select "More sound settings"
    3. Click on the Recording tab, and select your microphone. Click "Properties"
    4. Go to the "Levels" tab and you might see that your headset is muted by default for some reason. Unclick it.

I'm using a PLT Focus BT headset and the background BEEP-BEEP every 5 sec started after the last Teams auto-update.

I tried to unpair and re-pair my headset - it DIDN'T help. The BEEP continued.

WORKAROUND: I have quit (including running in the background) and restarted Teams and the BEEP is gone :-)

Still tracking the stability of this solution.

Hi Jim, I can't disagree with you on this, Microsoft should definitely have reverted this change if it caused only frustration. All I'm saying is that maybe they had a good reason to enable it and maybe this reason is still valid despite the frustrations. Their answer about using certified headset is 100% tactless and unacceptable though.

But on the other hand I can't figure out why a Smart company like Shokz would put such a loud unusable beep in their firmware, didn't they test this feature ? And I'm upset that they didn't provide the possibility for end users to update the firmware. It's a $160 device for god sake...
