how do I fix desktop and file folders that do not refresh automatically?

If you are using Windows 11, you can try this:

  1. Open File Explorer
  2. On the top bar, click the right most "..." to open more option
  3. Click "option"

there are three tabs on the top, what you have to do is to click the "restore to default" button on each tab.

remember to click "apply".

    alright guys I solved this problem for me but it was on a lark and I don't think it's going to apply to everyone here. I was using Teracopy as my default file transfer program, i uninstalled Teracopy and that solved this problem for me. But I'm assuming not everyone here is using Teracopy so it's most likely not the main problem, but if you are using teracopy try uninstalling it and see if that works.

    I've tried every single "solution" in this thread. The only problem I'm running into is I started from the end of the thread and worked my way back. I uninstalled OneDrive months ago without unlinking my desktop. I did all the registry hacks suggested in this thread but then went to the beginning of the thread and realized maybe I should reinstall OneDrive and unlink my desktop, but now I can't even get OneDrive to open because I did all that messing around in the registry. OneDrive WILL NOT OPEN no matter what i do so i can't unlink my desktop.
