Windows 11 Bluetooth no sound/microphone and crashing

My Bluetooth earphones have been working well all the time until I upgraded my laptop to Windows 11. The laptop shows my earphones are connected, but neither sound nor microphone works. The browser and Zoom crash every time I try to use Bluetooth earphones to listen to music or join meetings.

I have tried disconnecting/reconnecting Bluetooth earphones, turning on/off Bluetooth, resetting my earphones, restarting my laptop, and none of these resolves the issues of no sound/mic and crashing. I even bought a new pair of Bluetooth earphones, and it did not work either.

I think this is a bug in Windows 11. Am I the only one facing this issue? What exactly is going on with Windows 11 Bluetooth? And what else can I do now?

I just "upgraded" (not sure I am comfortable actually calling this an upgrade) from Windows 10 to 11 and am running into these same issues. I just installed the Intel Bluetooth driver (22.250.0.2) but it didn't help at all.

    Here's my experience:

    1. When I boot up my computer and connect my headphones, everything works just fine including switching between headphone mode and headset mode when using Teams/Slack/etc.
    2. If I turn my headphones off and then back on later (whether its 10 seconds, 10 minutes, or 24 hours), it will say that it reconnected however nothing actually works - no sound, no mic, nothing. The only solution that works is to reboot. I've tried:
      1. Disconnecting and reconnecting from the Bluetooth screen while the headphones are on
      2. Unpair/Repair - sometimes it won't successfully unpair, it just hangs, other times it won't re-pair, other times it re-pairs fine but still doesn't work
      3. Tried turning Bluetooth off and back on from the Bluetooth screen - sometimes Bluetooth will get stuck trying to turn off or on and won't ever come back on, without a reboot
      4. Tried disabling/enabling various Bluetooth devices in Device Manager - after I've turned my headphones off and on, disabling any of these devices completely hangs the Device Manager and the only way to fix it is to reboot, and the reboot takes minutes longer.

The fact that Windows 11 Bluetooth is in this bad of a state after its been out for this long is just embarrassing and honestly disgusting.

    UPDATE FOR YOU:

After spending the past few hours going crazy submitting feedback and diagnostics for this, I eventually reached out to Microsoft support. They indicated to me that it's a known issue and they are currently working on a bug fix which will be rolled out in a future update. How far into the future will it be? Who knows, hopefully not too far into the future.. But at least they're aware of it and working on it, hopefully it's a priority fix for them.

P.S. This is happening on BOTH of my computers, one of them I updated back in November and it started doing it. The other laptop I just bought YESTERDAY for $1900 (top of the line) and it came with factory installed Windows 11 Pro (not even updated from Win10), I'm so infuriated right now! I was so hopeful that spending $1900 on a brand new laptop with preinstalled Win11 Pro would fix this, but it didn't..

I have a similar issue, my Sony Bluetooth headphones will work most of the time but sometimes will just stop and any audio app launched after that (Media Player, Spotify, Zoom, whatever) will freeze or crash. Rebooting fixes it for a while but that is annoying.

My laptop is dual-boot Windows and Linux, The Bluetooth works perfectly on Linux so it's definitely not a hardware problem. It used to work fine under Win10 also.

I've applied updates, reinstalled drivers, run troubleshooters and all the usual recommended stuff several times but it doesn't fix anything.

This is only one of many problems I've had since upgrading to Win11. I think Microsoft released it before it was ready.

This is just ridiculous... Can't believe how such a basic thing is broken so badly... and especially now that so many of us are working remotely and are dependent on our headphones for video conference calls...

I have two pairs of different bluetooth headsets, a QCY T5 and a Sony wf-1000xm3 and I can't get sound in either one of them!

Disabling hands-free mode brings the sound back but then I can't use the mic which I need for zoom calls!

    ME TOO!

Wow, I've been dealing with this for the better part of a year. I wanted to blame Dell, really, and now it seems this is a MS issue. Thanks for posting the update. Wish MS would get on this fix: this is a big problem for me (when I try and use a BT headset for mic+audio, it crashes the program, whether Zoom, Teams, or Skype). BT Audio output alone isn't an issue; just when I use the headset as output/input.
