Scanner won't run on Windows 11

I have an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner that I can't get to run on Windows 11. I did an install with the disk that came with the scanner, then downloaded the latest driver update from Epson, but when I try to run it, I get a message saying "Can't communicate with scanner." Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really need to use this scanner.

    I am also having problems using an Epson ES-300W portable scanner. Just purchased laptops for staff and they came pre-loaded with Windows 11. We have tried both Epson Scan 2 and Windows Scan and neither work properly. I do not want to replace 20 scanners. Do you have a Windows 11 Driver available for Epson ES-300W?

    I disagree that Win 7 was bad BUT, I agree that Win 11 has far too much crapola added and it is very glitchy. So many things that I use sometime no longer work or do not load.

    Hi Steve

    With computer on went through your procedures and indeed, the scanner worked. The only anomaly was that when the scanner was turned on it did not go through it's typical initialization (or normal warm up] process. It did however wake up, start and complete the process after it was selected to scan a document. BTW, the Preview and Scan Buttons were visible after all was done.

    My only question now (and perhaps premature) is that, if and when, MS and Epson get their act together how this will impact the "work around" that got the scanner to function now. Wouldn't it be ironic if it stops working after any MS/Epson "fix".

    Thanks for you comments and procedure--let's hope it doesn't need any more medicine....and the fix is permanent.

    Below steps derived from “The Geek Page”, dated January 28, 2022 By Saurav Dey.

    This permanently fixed my problems with Epson Scan on Windows 11. No reboots, needed, no turning on the scanner before startup needed. YMMV.

     

    Step#1: In the search box, type Run and select it from the search results.

    Step#2: In the Run dialog box, type services.msc and click OK.

    Step#3: The Services window will open. Scroll down and locate Windows Image Acquisition or WIA.

    Step#4: Make a right-click on the WIA and select Properties from the drop menu.

    Step#5: In the WIA panel, click on the Log On tab.

    Step#6: Under the Log On tab, select the Local System Account option. Check the box beside Allow Service to Interact with Desktop and clickApply to proceed.

    Step#7, restart the Service then restart the computer. Epson Scan should now work.

    Additional note: When Epson Scan starts if the “Preview” & “Scan” buttons are not visible then click once anywhere in the left hand panel & then press the keyboard “Alt” key. The buttons should now appear. (this part is from Epson support).
