Windows 11 Cumulative Update not downloading and installing.

Shortly after my post, I decided to see how the MS team responded directly. Using HELP, I contacted the MS person available to all of us (free of charge) who own a legal copy of Windows 11. She quickly fixed both my machines.

1. She began by downloading a MediaCreationToolW11:

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

2. She launched it and opted for #3:

Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)

3. She then opened the disk image and ran the installation program which limited itself to reinstalling all updates including the current one. There was a lengthy installation both before and during the reboot.
4. Reboot and run Windows update one last time.

NOTE: None of my apps were removed or lost their settings. No documents, etc. were removed.

Problem solved. It took about 3 hours. Installing all updates rather than simply reinstalling Windows seems to be much more machine intensive. If you try this, do so with care.

PS: Notice that this did not explain why the problem existed to begin with, nor am I convinced it won't occur again. If so, we can continue looking for common factors: I would prefer a quick update to a long, long repair.

How exasperating and well said, due to their ERRORS!!! my laptop has become super slow and sometimes it freezes! How I wish never updated to WINDOWS 11. What a pity that consumers are treated like this. Anyway, we wait and I'll avoid throwing the laptop out the WINDOWS!! :) . Good luck and keep fighting!

Window 11 Update Would NOT Download and Install October 2022's Cumulative Update. Period.

I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter but it was useless.

I tried everything outlined in this post, including reinstalling Windows 11 - nothing worked.

Then I found the solution listed on "the Droid Guy.com" website. This Worked!

Everything has now downloaded and installed and my computer is completely up to date.

The solution is as follows:

1. Press Windows Key + R on your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
2. At RUN dialog box, type**“services.msc”** and press Enter key or click OK to open Services section.
3. At Services window, find the Windows Update service. These are arranged alphabetically, to easily find services that you are looking for.
4. Right click on Windows Update and selectStopfrom the drop down menu.
5. PressWindows key + E on your keyboard to open File Explorer section.
6. At file explorer section, navigate to your installation folder, it is usually on your Drive C, Windows Folder, SoftwareDistribution folder.
7. Click DataStore folder, highlight everything inside the folder. Right click and choose Delete from the drop down menu.
8. Return to the SoftwareDistribution folder, click on Download folder to open it. Highlight everything inside the folder. Right click and choose Delete from the drop down menu.
9. Press Windows Key + Ron your keyboard to open RUN dialog box.
10. At RUN dialog box, type**“services.msc”** and press Enter or click OK to open Services section.
11. At Services window, find the Windows Update again.
12. Right click on Windows Update and select Start from the drop down menu.
13. Download and install windows update and then Check if Windows Update Error issue still occurs.

I agree. I had a problem installing KB5013889. Tried all the usual commands (fsc /scannow, etc.) nothing worked.

Finally called MS Support. They showed me where to download the Windows 11 ISO file. I ran it and everything is good now. It's a simple repair that did not affect my files, settings or apps. My computer is just the same as it was prior to running the repair. Haven't been able to say thank you MS Support for a while but in this case they were right on the money. Thank you MS Support!

Once on the website, click on the second choice "Create Windows Installation Media". Select "Download Now" and follow instructions to create the ISO file (Not USB File). I saved the file to the desktop. Once downloaded, double-click the file, let it run and you'll back to normal again in no time.

Of course, no one is finding a solution. They are looking at the wrong problem.

We have four Windows 11 Professional computer in our home/office.

Two of them have had no problem updating.

Two of them have failed with the current 2022-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5015814)

The successful installations had the following pertinent factors:

1. One was a Dell XPS 8950 with a hybrid non-SSD boot drive/500 GB SSD data extension with McAfee AV
2. One was a Windows laptop with a 500 GB SSD with Windows Security

The unsuccessful installations were on two computers of different age, but with the following pertinent factors:

1. One was a Dell XPS 8950 with a 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive with Malwarebytes for one failure and Windows Security for second failure
2. One was a Dell XPS 8950 with a 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive with Windows Security

So we can rule out:

machine model or type (in itself)

Malware protection type

We cannot rule out:

SSD OS drive

Boot drive size

Dell XPS (in combination with drive type, drive size)

Can anyone add data to this statistical analysis?
