Yep, even after all the latest updates I still get the same error occasionally, so it hasn't gone away...

Since last Windows 10 automatic update done on 8 PCs (KB5016616, KB5012170 & KB890830) 4 PCs are now showing "task host window is stopping background tasks" on shutdown.
Does anyone know what caused this?
Thanks

the same problem, it even happens with a newly installed machine and updated version of win windows win10 21h2
I have found that if I use the the shutdown command in the cmd window as admin with a time option I don't have the host task window issue. There seems to be a timing issue of some sort. I have been using
shutdown /s /t 15
(wait 15 seconds before shutting down after the shutdown process has begun)
I installed updates KB5017308 & KB5017500 (.NET) today. It did not solve the problem
Thank you for the suggestion - I will definitely give it a try and report back
