Since last Windows Update "task host window is stopping background tasks windows 10" on 4 machines

Since last Windows 10 automatic update done on 8 PCs (KB5016616, KB5012170 & KB890830) 4 PCs are now showing "task host window is stopping background tasks" on shutdown.

Does anyone know what caused this?

    It's an issue for all 3 Windows 10 PC's I updated past weeks. I prepared my father's Windows 11 update in time for the buggy bitlocker-restart issue on Windows 11 that got more publicity a couple of days ago.

    A Windows 10 32 bit ASUS T200TA laptop did not show the task host message, but also refused to shut down without notice after the latest update.

    I allmost killed it to get shutting down working with allmost all tips published for this situation on the internet. It finally froze before I could really do stuff from within Windows.

    Fortunately an externally saved image with a 2018 Windows-10 version could be restored via a gparted live-USB. I'll await this thread before I'll upgrade it again. Unfortunately moving to Ubuntu would sacrifice the camera's.

    I am not sure that this problem (Task Host Window stopping shutdown) is after an update or installation on both my win10 desktop and laptop of Win365.

    It also seems to be affecting backup to OneDrive.

    Any help to find a solution much appreciated.

    I have the exact same problem. None of the fixes listed here fix the problem. I have noticed that if I reboot my system early after startup without letting my system idle, the problem does not occur. I also noticed that windows update likes to do 2 rounds of background work/checking for updates - once right after startup and another batch of work later during idle time. It's after this second batch of activity that some background task hangs or doesn't get terminated and persists until it's time to shutdown.

    I tried the shutdown again but 15 hours or so later and the Task window host issue was back. While seem if you do a shutdown immediately after a reboot then the Task window host issue is not present. But it seems if you leave the machine up and running for a while what ever is causing the issue starts up again

    I tried this method and it worked. Now I will leave the machine up for a couple of days and see if the success continues
