Game crash with "The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found"

Hello!

A few games are crashed after a few minutes of gaming. The mouse got stuck for a few seconds after I'm able to alt+tab but the game process is not responding.

I found the following errors and warnings in the Windows event logs:

    I started getting this error a few months ago. It has taken my boot times from 25-30 seconds to around 4 minutes. The Event Viewer shows the failure of the NVidia driver to load and this error.

    I've rolled my BIOS firmware back as far as I can and stepped it back up to the current version and found no change.

    I've removed my PCI RAID controller and installed a fresh version of both Win10 and Win11 on a new m.2 SSD. Had the same issue.

    Replaced my RTX2080 with a ASUS ROG RTX4090 and have the same issue.

    Memory checks good and I've tired different memory configurations, no change.

    I've tried all the available versions of the NVidia drivers and found an old version 532.03 does not trigger the error.  If I install the latest NVidia drivers 546.01 the computer will not boot on both Win10 or Win11.

    Found the native NVidia driver for Win10, 31.0.15.3623 dated 06/08/2023, causes the error while the native driver for Win11 31.0.15.2824 dated 1/15/2023 does not. (native = installed during a fresh install)

    The only performance issue, besides the slow boot, is when I run Sony Vegas Pro v21. When I try to show my video on my second screen I get a black screen on the 2nd monitor and the program locks down and does not recover. I've disabled GPU Acceleration and had no effect.

    NVidia has been actively trying to help find the cause and ASUS keeps telling me to install a fresh copy of Win10 and the latest drivers. Very poor support from ASUS.

    I know the way and can't find the why...

    Hello again.

    I recently got this error again.
    Checking Event logs showed that windows updates nvidia display driver and after updates successfully, my system crashes successfully. 😒
    After booting in safe mode ...
    I hate windows automatic updates, so i go to about screen in settings app and in related settings go to system protection, select hardware tab and in device installation settings , disable automatic driver updates.

    -> DDU -> Install 496.13 game ready driver -> It works fine again !
    As i said before, i dont have any issue with nvidia driver and my sticks of ram in Ubuntu.

    I use DDU and then install 472.12 version of nvidia game ready driver (not DCH but Standard) on my system. it seems there is no error yet.
    Of course, the problem may arise again later.

    I think updating BIOS is dangerous and I will not do it until I have to. Especially considering that the computer may crash (as it happened before) in the middle of updating the bios.

    Do you have MSI afterburner installed by any chance?

    Facing the same problem with oc msi rtx 3060, crushing during rdr2 gameplay.

    Msi afterburner has some options related to compitability, wondering if they might be related

    Hello!
    I had the same problem when i had 2 different monitors on watching videos on different screens and different browser.

    What fixed it for me was that i restored nvidia control panel 3d settings.

    u might have touched those for better game performance or w/e since there are good options. Honestly i dont know which option it is but i think its image scaling or for some reason texture settings.

    anyway restore those and it might take ur problem away.
